Rubber removed and tied off, he slipped towards the edge of the bed and stood, then bent and scooped Mya into his arms bridal style.

She made an adorable “Eeep” that pulled a laugh from him, and her arms wrapped around his neck, nearly choking tight.

“Easy, baby,” he crooned, mouth to the side of her head. “Gonna get us a shower.”

“Don’t drop me.” Her mumbled command was spoiled by another “Eeep” as he shifted her higher in his arms. “Kade!” She halfheartedly slapped the side of his shoulder. “You did that on purpose.”

“Who me?” Elbowing the bathroom door open, he fumbled for a towel to drape across the cabinet before setting her down. “I’m just tryin’ to take care of you.”

By the time the shower ran warm, she’d forgiven him, her legs looping around his waist as they kissed without urgency.

This. He pulled back and stared into her eyes. This is what I’ve been missing my whole life.

There’d been so many misunderstandings in their past, things each had been blind to, mostly attached to their young age and lack of world experience.

We’ve got a couple decades on those kids. Maybe our time wasn’t then.

“What are you thinking about that’s so serious?” Mya leaned an elbow on his shoulder, her fingers threading through his beard, nails gently scratching along his skin. Something he’d never known he’d like but now couldn’t imagine doing without. Also, he couldn’t imagine allowing anyone else these casual caresses.

“Wondering about our time, you know? It’s now, and I feel that deep down in my gut. I don’t want to waste another moment, though.” He kissed her softly, then wrapped his palms around her ass and lifted her from the counter, turning to walk into the shower. “All that can wait. Time to get you and me unsticky.”

Washing her body was a revelation, a lesson in adoration. The acres of creamy skin with rivulets of water tracing each dip and curve were mesmerizing. She seemed to find the same fascination with water running down his chest and stomach. Her fingertips tracked along the many lines of his tattoos, following the sweep of color across his shoulders and back. The questions came rapidly, each overwriting the one preceding it until he couldn’t answer any of them.

“What does this one stand for?”

“Did it hurt?”

“When did you get this one done?”

He finally captured her hands in his, twisting her in his arms so her back settled against his front. “Woman, if you don’t stop touching me all over, we’re gonna have shower sex. And I don’t have condoms in here, so that’s a no-go.”

Mya laughed softly, chin tilting up to look at him over her shoulder. “We’d only need one for penetrative sex.” She wiggled a hand free of his grip and slipped it behind her, cupping his cock and angling it between her thighs near the juncture of her core. He pushed as she rocked backwards, the flow of water easing his way. “See, we can do plenty of stuff without you putting on a raincoat.”

“A raincoat, huh?” Nudging her cheek with his nose, he urged her to meet his mouth. Kissing her was like coming home; the intimate action made more precious because it was Mya. “You’re right.” He bent his knees slightly, changing the angle to skim across her sex lightly. “Don’t need a condom for this.” Kade glided a hand down her belly, fitting a finger to either side of her clit before pinching gently. Her moan was low and breathy, ending on a rising keen.

“Kade.” She flung an arm up, curling her hand around the back of his neck, pulling herself closer for another deep, rousing kiss.

He felt the tremors rocketing through her and increased the pace of his movements, both hips and fingers. Keeping pace with her arousal was a dance he’d willingly spend the rest of his life learning. Their kisses changed into open-mouthed gasps. Her gaze locked with his in a way that felt like she saw all of him. All the good. All the bad. Everything that made him, she saw. Kade was raw but settled at the same time, vulnerable and dominating in the same breath.

“Coming,” he told her, the uncoiling spring in his belly pushing him breakneck to the finish line. He coated the insides of her thighs, feeling the heat of his cum against his hand as he teased and tweaked her clit.

“Oh my God.” Mya turned in his arms, every movement languid and graceful. “My knees are mush.”

“I’ve got you.” He wrapped an arm around her waist, using the cupped palm of the other to wash them off. “I’ve got you.”

MYA

After the shower excursion, Kade had been determined to feed her. After he’d decisively dressed her in one of his shirts, that was. With the hem of the T-shirt skimming along her thighs, Mya had enjoyed working alongside him in the kitchen. Throwing a couple of steaks on the grill and popping a pan of fries in the oven wasn’t cooking, not really, but it had been nice to share even such mundane tasks with someone.

Not just someone. With Kade.

She agreed with her thoughts, wild though they felt sometimes. Kade had always made everything better, all across the board. That wasn’t anything new, but the feeling of strength she had with him standing beside her was. Not fragile or tentative, but solid. Firm. Something she knew she could depend on.

After food, they’d settled on the couch and watched a couple of episodes of some reality show neither was really interested in. Touches and caresses filled the moments with far more enjoyment than whatever manufactured drama was playing out on the screen. Even the fact the dogs were all lounging around made it better. It was a homey slice of time, and Mya wanted a thousand more moments like those.

Going to bed had been another revelation, because while they didn’t have sex again, Kade’s arms around her were as intimate as it got. His hands had skimmed along her sides, up and down her arms, finally pausing to twine their fingers together.

Now she’d woken with his breath ghosting across the nape of her neck, in an echo of the first time she’d woken with him. Her first love finally in her bed.
