“You said that already.”

His phone vibrates in his back pocket and it has the effect of shaking him out of whatever trance he was in. “The kids,” he says suddenly, grabbing for my hand. He leans in, pressing his mouth to my forehead in a sweet kiss before tugging me out from behind the curtain. The other customers swallow us up, making it effortless for us to blend in with the crowd so it seems as if we actually did take a detour to the bathroom before returning to our children right away like any good parent would. The class has moved down from where we were to Ares, where Mrs. Catherine regales them with stories from the God of War. I spot Tanzanite immediately, but she’s not hard to miss when she’s standing right next to my stranger’s kid. After what went down moments ago, Zeus and his son will always stand out to me like a bright light. I can’t believe I let it happen. I fucked someone else, a man I don’t know in the middle of a museum on my daughter’s field trip. Holy fuckballs. It’s the epitome of spontaneity and I have the orgasms to prove it. They were off the charts amazing, but it also goes against everything I believe in. I’m not the cheater…Mike is.

Damn it. There is no way to fix this, I know as much from experience. I have to divorce him now. I was making him pay for the hurt he’s put me through, but after the crazy hot sex with Zeus, I have no choice but to leave my husband.

“Mommy, you got here just in time. Ares is my favorite.”

“The God of War?” Zeus says beside me and flicks me a look silently teasing me I’m raising a future psycho.

“Yes.” Tanny nods. “He had to be extremely intelligent to organize multiple battles.”

“He slaughtered people.” Zeus’s son speaks up for the first time since we found the kids. “Haven’t you researched anything? No one liked him, not even his mom and dad.”

Well. I’m not sure I like this little asshole. I don’t make it a habit to call kids derogatory names, but he’s talking down to my daughter.

“Of course, I researched him, you idiot. Ares obviously needed friends, so I’m not turning my back on the guy.” She retorts and an unladylike snort escapes me.

“Don’t call people idiots, Tanzanite.” I scold even though I was calling the little kid worse things in my head. Zeus takes my hand, tugging me in the direction of the next statue. “What are you doing?” I hiss quiet enough for him to hear but not anyone else. The other parents in the group nosily watch us, not hiding the fact they’ve glanced at our connected hands. The last thing I need is people speculating and questioning who this man is to me.

I also don’t need anything getting back to Mike or he’ll throw it my face, acting justified in his years of shitty behavior. Take Christmas for example. This year was the first year he put no effort in and literally got me nothing. Typically, I order my own gifts and he’ll wrap them or pick out a few things to toss in my stocking. But this year? Absolutely nothing. I’d say I’ve never felt so un-special in my life, but it’d be a lie because the bastard usually does next to nothing for my birthdays too. One year he'll buy me flowers, a cake, and a gift, fooling me into thinking he’s finally got it, then he pulls something like Christmas. It took everything in me not to cry for most of the day after I’d made sure everyone else had an amazing Christmas with gifts, food, and full stockings.

I wanted to light the goddamn tree on fire and throw everything else out the fucking front door. I learned a very valuable lesson that day—stop going so far out of my way for people who don’t deserve it. My time and energy are too valuable to not be appreciated even in the simplest of ways. Next year, the motherfucker won’t even get a chocolate-covered marshmallow from me.

“I’m letting the kids work it out between them. I got the conversation started now they can debate the qualities or lack of the Gods amongst themselves. Josiah needs more peer interaction, and less grown-up conversations.”

My brow raises with the interesting bit of information he volunteered. “Okay,” I drag out the word. “But you’re touching me and people are looking.”

He shrugs. “So.”

“So,” I echo and glance at my left hand. I took off the antique diamond I used to love so much, but the plain platinum band still adorns my ring finger.

He drops my right hand. “Fuck.”

“Yep, my thoughts exactly.”

“Why didn’t you say something?”

“Oh, I did. More than once, I told you we couldn’t do anything.”

“Never once heard the words I’m married leave your lips.”

“Excuse me. I was too busy being manhandled and moaning.”

He shakes his head as a low chuckle rumbles his chest. “I suppose you have a husband around here somewhere who will try to ruin me in some way?”

“No, he’s probably too busy fucking his mistress at his office.”

“Fuck. You have to be kidding me. No man in his right mind would fuck someone else when he has your cunt to hug his dick.”

Filthy, filthy mouth. Boy, does it do glorious things to my vagina. “I mean, I’d like to think so, but unfortunately, it’s not reality.”

“Dude’s a dipshit.”

I nod as one of the other parents moves to stand beside him. “Sir, there are children present! Please watch your language.” Tugging his ball cap lower, he shoots them a glower and turns away. The woman balks and steps a good two feet away. I can’t blame her, Zeus is intimidating. I didn’t notice it at first because I was momentarily blinded by his ruggedly handsome features and big, firm body, but now I can see it plain as day. He was alone with his kid because the other parents were too scared to approach him. Ugh, why do I find it even sexier he can intimidate them so badly?

I manage to keep some distance between us the rest of the field trip, but I find myself meeting his gaze several times throughout the afternoon, wondering what his story is. Who he is and why I care so badly.

I swear everyone else notices it as well.
