I buzzed Landon in, and in my pacing, I spotted theGolfing for Dummiesbook on my coffee table. Quickly, I grabbed it and tossed the borrowed book under the couch. He didn’t need to know I’d been up since the sun crested the horizon pouring over the rules and etiquette in hopes of passing as someone who actually golfed. Today would be a disaster if I couldn’t pull it off.

“Oh, hey. Good morning.” Standing in the hallway, his blue eyes roamed over my body.

With a smoldering look, like the one in his eyes, I had an even harder time understanding why he turned down my invitation the other night. He was practically undressing me right there.

“Good morning.”

“Are you ready?”

“Yep.” I turned around to grab my keys and golf bag.

“Do you need to still get ready?”

I glanced down at my perfectly fine outfit; a white skort, a royal blue polo shirt, and thigh-high blue and white stockings. Without a thought, I ran my hands over my hair. “It’s my hair, right? I should have it tied back in a braid or something.”

“No, your hair is fine.” But still, his gaze lingered.

I stretched up and grabbed my hair, arching my back just a little as I pulled my long, thick hair into a presentable ponytail. “Better?”

He nodded, slowly, as he blinked. “It’s fine.”

He couldn’t stop looking in my direction as we descended the stairs and walked out to his car. Ever the perfect gentleman, he insisted on carrying my bag.

“So where are we playing?” I asked after sitting in the passenger seat and readjusting my stockings.

Landon swallowed, blushed slightly, and revved the engine. “Bear Meadows? You familiar with it?” I shook my head. “It’s near the airport.”

“It’s a public course, right?”

“Yes.”

Private courses had stringent rules and requirements about presentation, according to the morning reading I’d done. No doubt my older set of clubs with the worn-down grips stowed in a scruffy, previously loved golf bag would not pass their strict requirements.

He pulled out of the parking lot, and sped along the road to the main road, taking a left, driving us out of Cheshire Bay.

“We’re going to be playing with Eric, my brother.”

“Ah. The younger, less wiser one.” I smirked.

“That’s him, and his brother-in-law-to-be, Jesse, will also be there.”

I leaned back in the seat and let the warmth from the heater blow over me. In the depths of my bag was a jacket, but I hoped the sun would sneak out from behind the clouds and heat us up. “So I’ll be the only female. Got it.”

“Does that bother you? I asked if there was anyone who wanted to join in, and Jesse answered first.” His left hand sat on top of the steering as his right thumbed through his phone.

“Not at all. I can handle three guys.”

“What?” He nearly choked on his words.

My eyebrow cocked. “Golfing, Landon.”

There was a sharp inhale on my left. “Okay, whew.”

I sensed his tension, although it wasn’t hard to miss. “What do your lady friends do? Like your sister-in-law, I forget her name, what does she do for work?”

“Lily works from home. She’s a social media and marketing wizard.”

“Shut up. A real-life wizard?” I said it with a playful smile. Then I remembered Erin had mentioned using the services of a wizard, and those two pieces clicked into play. “What else does the wizard do?”
