Fuck. Even thinking about Lyra sent a chill of need down my spine.

Stay focused. The sun had set, and I was sure that every demon in that fucking house was plastered by now. Tonight was the night of peace. It was supposed to be, anyway. Wrath was the new leader of the Night Ravens, and others would be testing him.

Even if he was too naïve to think that.

My brother was a good leader—don’t get me wrong. But he could be soft at times. He showed kindness where some deserved death. He showed mercy where some deserved severed hands.

A weakness like that would put everyone in danger.

A weakness like that would put her in danger.

The engine revved again as I sliced through the highway, getting closer and closer to Lyra.

Anyone who touched her was a dead man.

And today in particular, I was burning with vengeance.

I found Natalie first. Her face lit up in conversation with Wrath and Zac in the kitchen.

“Where is she?” I asked, breathless from rushing over here.

All three sets of eyes snapped in my direction.

Natalie, however, quickly regained her composure. “Where’s who?” she asked innocently.

“Don’t make me ask again.”

She rolled her eyes. “So nice of you to show up, Alek. Lyra’s doing just fine without you, thanks.”

Yeah, she was getting on my fucking nerves.

I slid my eyes to Zac, raising an eyebrow. He hesitantly glanced over at Wrath, though I wasn’t sure why. I would be the one making his life a living hell if he didn’t tell me where Lyra was, not him.

Like I said, Wrath was much too merciful.

“She’s outside with Salem,” he replied. Smart man.

I didn’t wait another second before sauntering out of the kitchen, heading toward the back doors of the lake house.

I wasn’t wrong before. Every demon I passed in the living room seemed to be drunk already, though I wasn’t surprised.

But a drunk demon was not someone I trusted, especially around her.

When the hell did I get so possessive?

It took me two seconds to step outside and find her; her cherry hair reflecting off the light of the moon hanging high in the sky. Her back was to me, and I stopped to observe her.

She had been drinking, which was fine. Just like everyone else, she came here to relax.

Or to see me, but after the way I treated her, I really doubted that. My heart ached at the thought.

Lyra couldn’t see me, but the two female Night Ravens that her and Salem faced saw me standing on the steps that led to the rocky beach below. They froze, the smiles slipping from their lips.

I waited with my arms crossed until one of them elbowed Salem and nodded in my direction. Her and Lyra spun around, eyes wide.

The second Salem saw me, she rolled her eyes. Fuck, her and Natalie were so similar.

“Lyra,” I called out.
