The little zoo of butterflies that Reese stores in my stomach does another one of its choreographed dances. I should be worried, not excited—after all, it’s not like Elliot can simply wave a wand over the paparazzi hordes to convince them of the inherent truth and justice in Reese’s side of Holly’s twisted story. These things take a little time and, while that time passes, going out in public might tempt those piranhas with cameras to come feast on the sight of us.

But whatever. If they want to take pictures, so be it. I’m proud of Reese. I’m proud of myself. I’m proud of our family.

Put that on your front page, assholes.

I sense him before I see him. His smell, his aura all come into the room, followed by the man himself. “You ready, baby?”

He gets one step into the room before he freezes. His eyes widen and his lips part.

I stop nervously, caught in the no-man’s-land between the bathroom and the threshold of the door where he’s standing. I fidget in place, twirl a lock of hair in my finger, chew at the inside of my cheek.

“I know it’s not what you’d probably expect from me, there being a baby on board and all,” I explain dumbly. “But I really wanted to break this bad boy out since we’re finally getting out of the house.”

His mouth opens and closes without a word coming out. Then his jaw sets like he’s deciding something. He crosses the space between us in two huge strides and takes my hand, pulling me into him. One palm settles at my hip before the other strokes across my stomach.

“You’re beautiful when you’re pregnant,” he breathes out in a raspy whisper. “Radiant. Stunning. Perfect. My God, I can’t believe you’re mine.”

I flush furiously. The heat spreads across my cheeks and chest. “You’re just saying that because you’re the one who got me pregnant.”

“Yeah? And so what if I am? Am I wrong?” He nips at my neck, teasing a girlish, giddy giggle from me.

“No, you’re not. I am pretty damn gorgeous, honestly.”

Reese rises back up and captures me in a searing kiss. “Fuck dinner. I could eat you up right now.”

I shiver, even as heated pleasure pools low in my stomach and I can’t help but press against him.

“Why don’t you?” I lean up, nipping at his lower lip. “Dessert tastes better when you’re not supposed to be eating it anyway…”

Reese groans. I shudder as he buries his face in my neck. “As tempting as that sounds… We got a reservation. Plus, I think I like the idea of making you wait.” When he pulls back from me, there’s a huge grin on his face. “And I think building up for what I have in store for you is just what you need.”

I bite my lip. “You’re such a devil.”

Reese grins. “Your devil, baby. Never forget that.”

I want to stamp my feet and pout because he looks incredibly edible in that open-collared baby blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up to expose brawny forearms and his swirling tattoos. His slacks are tight and I know better than anyone alive that he can fully deliver on everything that that mouth-watering bulge promises.

But he’s intent on making me wait and, as horny as I already am, the idea of spending the next two hours getting even more worked up is too delicious to deny.

So I let him lead me down to the front of the condo building. Under the stone canopy, there’s a shiny white luxury Cadillac waiting for us. I look at him, blinking in surprise as a chauffeur opens up the door for the two of us to get into the back.

“I didn’t pull any punches for tonight,” he explains. “I wanted it to feel special. Also… since this isn’t my usual ride, people won’t be trying to clock it. I wanted to give us as much privacy as possible. You like it?”

Do I like it? It’s like I’m a modern-day princess in the back of her carriage about to be whisked off to the palace to meet her knight in shining armor. Only, my knight is already right here with me.

Yeah, safe to say I like it.

I smile at him. “It’s perfect,” I say. “Only… there is one thing.”

He looks at me quizzically as the Cadillac pulls out onto the road. “Oh? What’s that?”

Grinning, I roll up the partition that’s separating the front of the Cadillac from the back. Props to whoever custom-built this. I want a little privacy with my man before we get to the venue.

When the partition closes, I scoot closer to Reese. I slide my hand over his chest, getting a feel for the impressive muscle that lays beneath his suit. His pulse quickens in the veins along his throat. His Adam’s apple bobs with a swallow when my hand begins to trail lower, toward his groin.

“Well, you wanted to have your fun teasing me, so I was thinking that I wanted to have my own fun, too,” I explain. I’ve got a wicked grin on my face and a monstrous amount of adrenaline running through my veins. I’m always wired when he looks like this and talks such sweet, filthy promises in my ear—but something feels different about tonight. And even though I can’t place it, I can feel it coming off Reese, too.

What else can we do but let it take us for a ride?
