He chuckles. "Well, there was something else that I wanted to ask. But I got interrupted by a bit of a heist." He slides his hands into mine, caressing my fingertips with his. "I had a whole plan that night, you know? Wine and dine you. Fluff you up. Show you that you're my focus. And when you were well-fed, nice, and cozy, I was gonna pop a very important question."

My heart races. No… he's not serious…

"Reese—”

"Now, I don't have a ring. I did—I swear I did. But it's been on Holly's finger and honestly, I don't think I want to give you tainted junk. I don't need a ring to know this is real, though. I don't need a fancy proposal to know that you're the one that I want, forever." He laughs, looking up at me. His eyes peek through his lashes, smoldering and hot. "Think you'd like to marry me?"

My head swims. I should have seen it coming that night. I knew something was up. That there was something special in what Reese was doing. After everything that’s happened, not only does he want to be with me, he wants to marry me.

He wants me forever.

The tears flow easily but for the first time in days, they're happy. Nodding ecstatically, I laugh. I pull him up and kiss him. I don't care that my mother is there, disapproving. I don't care that we're in the middle of a hospital. Things will fall into place where they need to, in time.

I still hate crying as much as I ever have. But these tears… these tears, I can live with.

"Yes," I breathe out against his mouth. "Yes, yes. Forever, yes."
