Is that what growth is? Knowing when and when not to lose my shit in front of my woman?

When the bubbles are about to spill over the edge of the tub, I turn off the faucet and help Olivia in. She sinks down gingerly, sighing at the singe of heat.

When I see her relaxing, I smile. “There. Feels good, yeah?”

She nods with her eyes closed. Then she opens them and looks at me. “We’re going to be alright, aren’t we, Reese?”

I nod. “We’re going to be perfect.”

REESE

I leave Olivia in the bathroom with the door cracked so she can call me if she needs me. Meanwhile, I head to my office. I have Elliot’s line ringing before the door swings shut. As always, he answers.

“I have my fingers crossed that you’re not bringing me problems.”

I roll my eyes. “What is with my supposed friends answering my calls like I’m about to bring Armageddon onto them, eh?”

“Your friends know what you’re like. What’s up?”

“I got a problem,” I say with a bitter laugh. “Someone was following Olivia and Violet while they were at the park. And then she got creepy texts with a bunch of pictures from months ago and today. They’ve been following her around for a while.”

“Fuck. Do you have the number or were they smart and blocked it?”

“Blocked it, of course.”

“Hm.”

The sound of a door closing in the background sounds before he’s back on the phone. “You think it’s Holly?” he guesses.

“It has to be. Here, check your texts.” I quickly forward him the screenshots I took of all the messages Olivia received. “Creepy shit, right?”

“Less than ideal, that’s for sure. And the blocked number doesn’t make it easy to know if it’s the same number that Holly was messaging you from.”

“Can you find out?”

“I’d need to forward her phone records to my P.I. and have him look into things. It’d take some time, but potentially.”

“I want everything possible done.” I sit down on the edge of my desk, scowling. “What about a restraining order? This shit is criminal, right? Stalking? Cyberbullying?”

“Depending on what we dig up, there might be some hope with that,” Elliot agrees. “In the meantime, I think it would be a good idea to get Olivia and Violet out of the house for a while.”

My brows furrow. “‘Out’? If someone’s following, isn’t that a bad idea? I have a guy from the force watching the house. That should be enough.”

Elliot sighs. “I know you don’t wanna hear this, Reese, but this is showing a pattern of forethought and habit. These pictures have been going on for months. Now, these people—whoever they are—are getting bold enough to directly contact Olivia. Not you, but Olivia.”

My teeth grit together. I don’t like where this is going, but I have to ask. “What’re you suggesting?”

“Separate the two of them. Have Violet go to your mother, maybe have Olivia stay with hers or one of your other properties. If you’ve already got a detail on the house, I’m sure arranging something for your mom’s and the safehouse won’t be too hard. It might be the best thing to avoid further problems.”

I breathe through my nose. I don’t like this shit one bit. “Alright. Okay. Fuck, fine. I can have shit arranged and everything set in motion by the end of the week.”

Wait. The end of the week.

“Fuck—we got a thing going on on Friday…”

“Can’t it wait? For this?”
