Page 50 of Loving Gabe

I nod my head in acknowledgement.

“If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask,” he tells me.

I write a note. “It’s pretty boring here. I am already going stir crazy, and I have only been home for a few days.”

He chuckles as he reads it.

“You can get through this. I’m sure Gabe is a big help,” he says in response.

“He has been home constantly and doesn’t let me lift a finger,” I write.

“Good. He’s stepping up and being a good man,” Caleb says.

“It’s kind of smothering though. I know I was feeling a bit lonely with him gone, but he’s always hovering,” I write.

He laughs at that. “Yeah, but he almost lost you. I can see where he is coming from.”

I nod my head. That is one part I know is true. Gabe does care about me, and he is probably worried that if he leaves my sight, something will happen.

“I guess you are right,” I write down.

He laughs. “Oh, good thing you have that in writing. No one has ever told me I was right before.”

I roll my eyes at him. “Shocking,” I mouth.

“Cheeky,” he says with a grin.

The door to the elevator opens. I look over and see Bill walking in with Nolan.

“Hey, how are you doing?” Bill asks. I just smile at him in response.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Nolan asks Caleb.

Caleb smirks.

Huh? I didn’t think they knew each other.

“I’m just checking on your sister. We are friends after all,” he says, giving Nolan a once over.

Nolan narrows his eyes at him.

“I didn’t think you knew my sister,” he says, getting tense.

“I know her quite well,” he says, giving a meaning to his tone.

I narrow my eyes at him. “She has a man,” Nolan says.

Caleb chuckles at his words. “Oh, I know that. He just went to his office.”

“Right,” Nolan says before quickly heading to Gabe’s office.

I don’t miss how Caleb’s eyes watch his back side as he leaves.

I raise an eyebrow at him in question when he looks back over at me, and he grins with a wink. “Let’s just say I have varied tastes,” Caleb replies.

Bill, who I forgot was standing there, seems to choke on nothing.

“Nolan,” he calls with his voice taking on a high-pitched note.
