I set her on the counter and help her undress before we climb in, and she moves so her back is to my chest. We relax for a while before taking turns washing each other.

This moment has nothing to do with sex. I would love nothing more than to be buried in her right now, but this is something we both need.

The intimacy and closeness.

We spend the rest of the evening with each other. I order us some soup for dinner, and we lay in bed while watching a couple movies together.

Honestly, it is one of the best nights we have had in awhile.

I already knew we could work through anything. This was just a slight bump in the road.

We will make this work. I will do anything to keep this woman by my side.

Chapter Seventeen

Aubrey

Three weeks later…

We finally found my brother. He’s safe and is now back at his clubhouse. I can’t quite describe the relief I felt upon hearing that. I don’t know what I would do if I lost anyone in my family. Hudson was kidnapped for a month and had been at home healing for two weeks before he told us what was going on. The minute we got word, my entire family packed their bags and immediately headed out to see him.

All of us were pissed that we were left in the dark, but we will give Hudson shit when we see him.

Gabe and I are riding separately from the rest of my family, since we have been trying to spend more quality time together without having to be together all the time.

I honestly think we are starting to find a balance.

He goes to work now, but doesn’t stay late. I think he knew there were some tasks he could give to his employees instead of always doing them himself.

I had seen the doctor a couple days ago and am now confident that I am fully healed. My throat is no longer red, raw, or bleeding, which is a good thing since I kept to that strict diet for far too long. Honestly, if I never saw soup again, it would be too soon.

I had managed to get Gabe to stop for take-out before we left the city, but he wasn’t that hard to convince. I ordered probably more than I will eat in the couple hours it takes to get to the town Hudson lives in, but everything looked so fucking good that I just had to order everything I had wanted.

I’m sure my brothers will eat whatever I don’t when we stop. They aren’t terribly picky.

I think about what Chase had told us when they found Hudson. Katy, a woman who he talked about with me once when he was drunk, was the one who saved him. She found him and got him out of the basement where he was being held. We were all stunned to learn that it was Katy’s father who had kidnapped Hudson. We can’t imagine how Katy must be feeling now that she knows the truth about her dad.

I already knew that Hudson cared about her. I had never seen him talk about a woman that way before. There was just something in his voice and eyes when he was telling me about Katy that stood out to me.

Even without saving him, she had my approval. Now she will have my gratitude for life. I don’t know what I would do if I lost any of my brothers.

I couldn’t really do much when Hudson was missing since I was healing from my own injuries, but I’m going to be here for him now in any way that I can.

My brothers drove down together, and I have no doubt they will be there before us. My parents left at the same time as us. Even though Gabe and I had stopped a couple times, my parents were still just in front of us. The thought of losing not one, but two kids, was probably a lot for them. They don’t want to leave me alone either. I can imagine they waited for us on the road if they saw we weren’t right behind them anymore.

Once we pull into town, I get completely restless.

I need to see and hug my brother to know he’s real.

When we pull up to the clubhouse, I see my mother rush out of her car and into the clubhouse. We follow closely behind as I waste no time in taking Hudson from her arms and wrapping him in mine.

“Don’t you scare me like that ever again,” I whisper hoarsely into his ear.

“Back at you, sis. Chase told me what happened. Don’t worry, we will find the fuckers who thought they could mess with the Kingsley family,” he whispers in my ear.

“I know you will. I know my family well enough to know that we will go to any lengths for each other,” I tell him.

“Damn fucking rights,” he says, and I pull away only to rush towards Katy and wrap her in my arms.
