I clear my throat and plaster a confused look on my face. “Yeah, why?”

“Not much renders you speechless.” Len half snorts half laughs and Ev only shakes her head.

“He’s not capable of giving compliments. All he can do is keep quiet, or comment about himself.” Ev narrows her eyes at me but it has no effect, my mind stuck on the fantasy of ripping that damn expensive dress off.

“Oh, I’m sorry, did you take an All About Landon class before our date? Because whoever’s teaching is spewing lies.”

Everleigh laughs loudly. “It doesn’t take a brain scientist to figure you out.”

“You sure? Because you’ve got me all wrong, baby.” I wink.

Ev groans. “First princess, now baby? No more nicknames. Yuck.”

Lennox’s enjoying every back and forth moment, I can tell from the look on her face. She sits on the couch and grabs the bowl of popcorn from the coffee table.

Did she plan that? I’m surprised there isn’t a steaming mug of tea next to her.

“To be a fly on the wall at tonight’s party. Have fun kids.” Len smiles at both of us.

“We sure will.” I offer my arm but Ev walks right by and heads straight for the door. I try to ignore the fact that she smells amazing and that her ass looks fucking perfect with the way it sways in the dress. My cock twitches again, another thing I ignore. Fuck me.

Since when am I attracted to Everleigh Peters?

Neither one of us says anything as we descend the stairs to the lobby. Once outside, I walk her to my car and open the door for her.

Everleigh crosses her arms. “You don’t have to pretend to be a gentleman. I’ll be on my best behavior at the party.”

I chuckle. She’s cute. “I’m not pretending anything. This is just who I am.” I wave my arm and motion for her to get in.

Right on cue like I expect, she rolls her eyes. So predictable. But when she slides into the front seat, my eyes automatically drop down to her bare legs. The skin looks so soft, so touchable, so kissable.

Fuckkkk. What the hell is wrong with me?

I tear my eyes away with every ounce of strength and ignore my ever growing dick. I quickly shut the door and walk around to my side.

“Okay, Mr. Nice Guy,” Ev says as I get behind the wheel. “Do you let your passenger pick the music?”

“You know it. Choose whatever you’d like.” I smirk and start the engine. I can easily play nice guy all night.

She reaches forward and turns the dial. Country music filters through the speakers and I cringe. She likes country? The one genre I don’t like.

I notice the shit eating grin on her face and I wonder if she knows I can’t stand it. But all I do is smile back. “Great choice.”

“I know, right?” She taps her leg with one hand. “Too bad tonight wasn’t a western theme.”

“Yeah, too bad.” I try hard not to make a face but it’s difficult to keep a poker look..

“We’ve been running with the same friend group since freshman year. You don’t think I know a little bit about you?”

“Lennox told you I hate country, didn’t she?” I remember talking to her about music one time and she probably told Ev to put it on and annoy me. Well, ha. Jokes on them because it’s less than a five minute drive over to the frat house and my tolerance is pretty high from my mom always playing it. Bet they don’t know that little tidbit.

“Maybe.”

“Good thing we’re already here, then.” I pull onto a side street next to the house and park along the curb. “Usually I walk but with our fancy attire and shoes, I thought this would be a better choice.” I kill the engine and the torture to my ears stops.

“Wow, you actually make good choices?” Everleigh looks at me with amusement in her eyes, the light from the streetlamp dancing in them.

“Wow, you actually have a sense of humor?”
