“But he does.”

“He doesn’t know that. Come on.”

As they approached the man, he continued to stare at them as he smoked a cigarette. Addison was shocked when Kinley stopped in front of him.

“Is there something we can help you with?” she asked him.

“I’m just enjoying my cigarette.”

“I see. Well, it just seems strange that you enjoy it here.”

He smirked, tossed the cigarette down, crushed it under his shoe, picked it up, and tossed it into the trash bin, then he walked away.

“What is with him? Is it just me?” Addison asked.

“No. I think he’s up to something.”

“I’m afraid you could be right, but what? I don’t even know him.”

“He likes scaring you for some reason.”

“I’m telling Cody about him tonight. I told him about the last time, but he wanted me to tell him if it ever happened again.”

“Please do tell him. I’ll see you on Monday. Enjoy your weekend with that gorgeous cowboy. I seriously need to find one.” Kinley hugged her and after Addison got into her car, she walked off.

Cody strode from the barn. The day was turning cooler. It looked like fall decided to show. The wind picked up as he walked across the yard, and leaves floated down from the trees.

He needed to grab a shower before Addison got here. He was excited to see her. He enjoyed his time with her, and knew he was close to falling for her. He hoped she felt the same about him.

After his shower, he sat at the bar in the kitchen, drinking coffee when he heard a vehicle pull up outside. He glanced at the clock and saw it was too early for Addison, so he hopped off the stool, walked to the door, and peered out to see her SUV.

Opening the door, he stepped onto the porch, folded his arms, and leaned against a porch column.

“Hey, you’re early,” he said when she emerged from her vehicle.

“I’m sorry.”

“No, it’s fine, darlin’. Come inside.”

She nodded, closed the door of the car, and climbed the steps. She stopped when she reached him. He leaned down and kissed her lips but frowned when she seemed preoccupied.

“What’s wrong, Addison?”

“I saw that man again.”

“Where?”

“Well, he came into the pharmacy with a woman earlier, and after I closed, he was in the same place as the last time, smoking. Kinley asked him if we could help him with something but all he said was he was enjoying his cigarette. She told him it seemed strange that he enjoyed it there.” She shook her head. “I don’t like him.”

“I don’t either. You say he came in with a woman?”

“Yes. A tall brunette. She was very pretty, but for some reason they didn’t look like they belonged together. I know that makes no sense, but something isn’t right.”

“A tall brunette?” Cody mentally shook his head. It couldn’t be.

“Yes.”
