It sounds to me like she doesn’t trust you. At least, not fully. Some chicks like the dominant thing. Gah. Fucking love ‘em when they want it rough.

Focus.

Lucas

Right. So, yeah. Taking charge in and out of the bedroom is cool, but sometimes they just want to be taken care of. Maybe she’s more of the gentle and intimate type. Either way, just try to meet her needs.

I’m amazed by how easily this comes to him. Dominating, I can do. Gentle, caring, and submissive… not so much.

How am I supposed to know what she needs?

Lucas

You know, for as smart as you are, you’re pretty fucking dumb.

I send him a middle finger emoji and he hearts it.

Lucas

Try asking her, genius. Let her take charge.

I’ve been aching to speak with Molly all day. And if it weren’t for the visit I made to the Radley’s lumber factory this morning or being tied up in client meetings all day, I would have. I hadn’t made a fuss over her skipping dinner either, afraid to say or do the wrong thing and make things even more tense between us.

But those are just excuses, and I know it. Avoiding Molly benefits me because the truth is, I’m scared of losing another person I care about.

The realization jars me.

I care about her. A great deal, actually, and for once, I think Lucas may be right.

I mull this over a moment before typing into the Google search bar on my laptop, How to let a woman take charge.

There’s a sudden knock on my office door that I’ve grown so used to, it’s second nature to say, “Come in, Reginald.”

I don’t bother glancing up from my computer, but I’m interested in getting the wise man’s take on the situation.

“You’re looking comfortable around here.” I jerk my head up, surprised to find Sam helping himself to a seat. He spreads his arms across the back of the couch, glancing at the changes I’ve made to the office. “I like what you’ve done with the place. Looks more alive than it ever did when Thomas was here.”

I close my laptop and meet him on the opposite couch.

“Consider it a gift for taking this place off my hands,” I say coolly.

“I saw the article about you and Molly in the paper from a while back. You two look happy.” He smirks as if poking fun at our arrangement. “Maybe she’s truly the one?”

I don’t know why I’m suddenly on edge. But paired with him showing up unannounced, something’s different about Sam this evening.

Or maybe it’s that something’s different about me.

“Did you need something?” I ask him bluntly.

When he stands and moves toward my desk, I utter a curse for leaving what I was working on exposed.

He gathers the reports from the lumber factory in his hands. “Harold mentioned you requested some reports today.”

Fuck. The manager of the plant must have messaged Sam after I left.

“It seemed nonsensical to leave them to their own devices while we’re waiting on ownership to transfer,” I counter.
