I smirk behind the wall as a giggling Brittney and Jillian help me undress. If I’ve made the man speechless, it must look good.

“Oh, Danika. It’s not that big of a deal,” I say lightheartedly.

After all, this isn’t my real wedding dress for my real wedding.

But when I chance a peek at Rowan, he’s still very much in the doorway, despite her complaints.

“Today’s the day you spread your wings, kitten,” he says with mischief in his voice. “We’ll be leaving for Seattle at twelve o’clock sharp.”

I gawk at him as the girls slip a satin robe over my shoulders, and when I round the partition, his molten gaze instantly falls to my nipples, visibly hard against the thin fabric.

For a moment, it’s only the two of us and the memory of his hands on my body. How cherished he made me feel, how vulnerable he’d been while allowing me to cross a line no woman has before me—like sleeping in his bed and waking up every couple of hours to his fingers, knuckle-deep between my legs.

He doesn’t mask his desire from them; not even when Kenzie clears her throat. “Miss Hart and I have several wedding details to finalize this afternoon. Three hours is hardly enough time to finish up and have her ready for an impromptu trip.”

The warning glare he casts her has Danika snorting a laugh.

“Wait.” I pad over to him, trying like hell not to stagger beneath his roving stare. “What do you mean, we’re going to Seattle?”

I briefly recall the conversation I overheard with his brother. But I didn’t realize we’d be going so soon.

Rowan’s expression gives way to genuine confusion. He ignores my question, lifting my hair, still a mess from rolling in the sheets with him all night off my shoulder, and frowns. “You’re wearing your makeup?”

He touches my cheek before I glance back at the four women nervously. “Yes, Rowan. I wear makeup every day. You know this.”

I tip my head, wondering what’s gotten into him.

“I see,” he says. One hand slides into his pocket as he looks away from me and a sudden chill has me pulling my robe tighter. “Finish what plans you have with Kenzie, but you’ll need to be showered and ready to go by eleven-thirty.”

I search his face for an explanation for why he’s dismissing me.

Is he… disappointed?

I swallow thickly. “Aren’t you going to tell me where we’re going?”

“We’re making a trip for an event I have to attend tonight.” It’s as much as he’s willing to offer, apparently. “Reginald will bring you something to eat within the hour. It’s a long flight, and I don’t want you getting sick on the plane.”

My stomach clenches before bottoming out. I want to reach out for him but hesitate when slowly, he backs toward the door, putting distance between us. “I’ll see you soon.”

“The nerve of him,” I grumble once I’m showered and finished styling my hair.

I stare at his connecting door while my pulse flutters at the thought of flying for the first time.

I’ll admit, despite Rowan’s strange mood earlier this morning, the thrill of exploring the world outside of Magnolia Creek is exciting—and honestly, even more so when I get to explore it with him.

I bend down to grab my makeup bag from under the bathroom cabinet. But to my surprise, it’s not there. It’s… gone.

“What?” I murmur, panicked. “No, no, no.”

I open every drawer and cabinet in the bathroom with my heart slamming against my chest, then I circle back to my room and scour the drawers there, too. “Where is it?”

I yank the comforter and sheets off the bed, shaking them furiously, but even twenty minutes later, it’s nowhere to be found.

Rowan appears in the bathroom doorway, his lips thin, and that same despondent expression from before stamped across his face.

I drop the linens in my hands, glaring at the culprit. “Where is my makeup bag?”
