That caught his attention, which was now firmly planted on me. “Freckles, what did you do?”

I fidgeted—and I never fidgeted. But this was something that could potentially change everything about us. And even though I loved the idea of a life outside of the one Giulia planned for us, I was still desperately in love with my husband. I just hoped he was still in love with me.

“Um…about that building…”

He sighed, closing his eyes as he thrust his hands on his hips. “Please tell me you didn’t blow up my building.”

I winced, not saying a word. When he opened his eyes and looked at me, I was a little pissed that he didn’t look at all surprised. Was I really that predictable?

“Well, I guess it’s better than being attacked by our enemies.”

I stared at him in disbelief. “That’s it? That’s all you have to say after I destroyed your place of work?”

He shrugged. “I have insurance.”

I was out of my ever-loving mind. “Are you fucking serious? Sebastian, I blew it up. On purpose!”

“Freckles, it’s okay. I’m not upset.”

“That’s precisely the point! You should be upset. You should be screaming the house down, but instead, you’re this lifeless—” I stared at him, really studying his eyes. The anger in his face had seeped away, but that couldn’t be just because of the fact that I blew up his building instead of an enemy. No, this went so much deeper than that.

He. Fucking. Knew.

I pulled back and slammed my fist into his face. Wincing, he cupped his cheek and glared at me. “What was that for?”

“You know, don’t you?”

“Know what?”

“About the stasis. In fact, I’d say you’ve known for a while!”

His eyebrows shot up in surprise, probably because he knew that I knew. “How did you find out?”

“Rob.”

“That son of a gun. I thought he was sedated enough for the night.”

“Son of a gun?” I asked, quirking a brow at him. “That’s what you’re going with?”

“Well, I don’t actually like to swear.”

“So, you’ve known all along and yet you let us all go on thinking we were actually your family.”

“You are my family. That’s why I didn’t say anything.”

“How long have you known?”

He sighed, scratching his head. “Since the Relationship Manual.”

“Since—” I flinched back in shock. “But…that story came out?—”

“I know, I know,” he groaned. “And I’m sorry, but I couldn’t tell anyone. You’d start a riot like you are now, and I just couldn’t handle leaving this world behind. I really like it.”

“But we’re not actually alive. Rob doesn’t even know how to use a weapon!”

“I know,” he grimaced. “Don’t tell the others. They’ll never trust him again unless Giulia’s writing a story.”

“But…if you knew, why didn’t you tell us?”
