“But…you can get me a job—something far away.”

“Chance already said he’d take it.”

“So take it back! Tell him that I need it more.”

“Sinner—”

“No, this isn’t fair. After all I’ve done for you, you can’t leave me hanging!”

His eyebrows perked up. “I might be willing to compromise…for a price.”

I swallowed hard, knowing what I had to do.

“Are you willing to pay the price?” he smirked.

This was it—I had to do it for my sanity. Even if it meant I was scarred for life, I would risk seeing Maggie’s nether regions again so I could get the break I needed from the kid who wanted me dead.

“If I do this, there have to be systems in place…assurances that we will do everything necessary to ensure a swift and timely delivery in a hospital. There will be no fuckups. Are we clear?”

“Crystal.”

I nodded and held my hand out for him. “Then let’s get to work.”

“Alright, first up on the agenda today,” I said as I stood in the conference room around everyone. “Where do we stand on Operation: Freckles’ Delivery?”

“All vehicles have had an oil change in the last week,” Cazzo said. “I’ve also made sure that all tires have been rotated or replaced, and the spare tire on all vehicles is full-sized.”

“Perfect,” I grinned. “And the car seat?”

“There’s one in the back of every SUV.”

“Don’t you think that’s taking things just a little too far?” Florrie asked. “Come on, I know Maggie’s a little wild, but you’re preparing every vehicle with car seats?”

I nodded, understanding her point of view. “Sinner, you want to take this one?”

He stood and cleared his throat. “Some of you may not have had the privilege of dealing with a Maggie pregnancy, but I, unfortunately, have been witness on more than one occasion. She’s conniving, devious, and manipulative.”

“That pretty much all means the same thing,” Florrie retorted.

“Exactly,” Sinner said seriously. “She isn’t one to mess with, and we have to be prepared for all possibilities. Unless…you want to go along and see what happens when Maggie goes into labor?”

Florrie didn’t say anything, and neither did anyone else in the room.

“Alright, where does that leave us?” I asked.

“I’ve made sure all medical kits are up to date,” Hunter said, “Along with that, Sean is on speed dial to clear the road in case of an emergency.”

“I have Kate on standby,” Knight confirmed. “She wasn’t too happy about it, but I persuaded her it was in her best interests.”

“You did what?” Hunter asked, his eyes wide. “Hud, tell me you didn’t do anything…”

Knight smirked. “Unless you think fucking her until she said yes is harmful, we’re all good.”

That was more than I needed to know, but the job was done, which was all that mattered. “Alright,” I said, getting us back on track. “I’ve ensured that her bag is packed and ready to go, along with the baby’s. Where do we stand on maps?” I asked Burg.
