“Way, way better. My cramps are gone and I can finally think. Is… is the heat over?” She looked at me and I reached to feel her forehead.

“Seems like it. You made it through.” The others were still passed out and probably would be for some time. We had all been up nearly constantly throughout her heat, and it had been a long one. “Come on. I’ll make you breakfast. You’re probably famished.” She nodded and reached for me. I picked her up, carrying her all the way downstairs to the kitchen. I had her sit in one of the chairs and watch me as I made eggs, bacon, and pancakes, making sure to add extra chocolate chips to the pancakes. When I presented her the meal with a side of fruit, her eyes were wide with wonder. “So I take it you approve of your first post-heat breakfast?” She looked up with misty eyes.

“I’ve just never had a man cook for me before.” I had to stop myself from reacting to her statement. She might not have been treated like a princess where she was before, but that was over. My pack was going to spoil her beyond her wildest dreams now that we knew she was our mate. I hadn’t believed in such things, especially after my patchy past with omegas. I didn’t think I could love again, yet here in front of me was someone who was literally made to be my perfect fit. But I needed to speak with Piper about what it meant. I watched her eat ravenously. After this, her heats would probably start to regulate and even out to be much more manageable. Once she had cleared her plate I poured some fresh coffee and handed her the mug.

“Now that you have some energy and much needed sleep, I think we should talk about the future.” Her eyes flitted to me as she took a drink.

“The future?”

“Yes, I want to get all of the pack here so we can talk about how to move forward now that your heat is over.” Her eyes widened, and I detected a mild sour scent in her perfume. She was scared. “I want to assure you we all want you and want to keep courting you. So don’t worry about that.”

She nodded, but I could tell she was in her head. “Um, where’s my phone by the way?” She was chewing her lip and I wanted her to relax a bit, so I went to grab it.

“We plugged it in for you. It will be fully charged. You were in heat for over a week.” Her eyes went wide. “But don’t worry - we called your doctor and the Omega House, so they knew you were with us. I’ll go grab the guys so they can eat, and we can talk about anything on our minds and what you want for the future.” She nodded slightly, and I went upstairs to get my packmates.

“Hey guys, time to get up. Our omega needs us.” I shoved them while they groaned. Declan pulled a pillow over his head.

“I need an extra week of straight sleep after that.” Yanking the pillow off, I grabbed his arm and pulled him up.

“You can sleep later. Our omega is nervous now that she’s out of heat. It was her first one and we need to help her break down everything that happened - especially her begging for a bite.” At my words, Dominic popped up.

“She wants to be bitten! That’s incredible. I vote we bite her in today.” The idea sounded tempting, but I had to be the stable one of the group.

“I know she begged for it. And we should certainly do it - she is our true mate after all. But I don’t know if she even realizes that. She’s too new to our world. If she agrees now that she’s out of the heat haze, then we know that she wants it for real.” Declan scoffed at my words.

“What omega wouldn’t want to be bitten by her mates? You know it’s our inevitable fate.”

“All the more reason to go down and talk to her. She just ate. Let’s go.”

After getting them up from the nest, we made our way downstairs. “Piper? How about we all take a nice long shower and then we can-” My words dried up. The kitchen was empty. “Piper?” I raced around, sniffing for her scent. “Piper!” I ran outside, and saw an Omega rideshare peeling off from our street.

Piper was gone.

Chapter 33

Piper

I tried not to hyperventilate as I looked out the window of the rideshare. I had just had the most incredible, sexual, emotional experience of my life. Aiden had been so kind this morning, even making me food. But when he talked about our future, one memory came boiling up from the middle of the heat. I had begged them to bite me - bond me into their pack, a lifelong commitment. What was worse than the embarrassment of being so out of control of my biology that I was begging about a huge decision was that they rejected my request. It wasn’t so bad at the time, somehow they had tricked me into calming down about it. But now other memories were rushing back. Dominic told me he would never accept me, that he would help me through a heat but I’d never be his pack. That there was someone else. Declan's story of Aiden, how the other omega had broken them, made them wary to court a new one.

I was so stupid. They were great men. A fantastic pack. But they refused a bite in the middle of heat - a time when alphas were supposed to be the most likely to do anything for an omega, especially an omega they wanted to bond with. If they could deny me during a heat, then it meant they were just doing the right thing by me. I was a stranger in their world with no other prospects. They were the only pack listed on my file for any heat assistance. They probably felt sorry for me. But they didn’t truly want me. And even if two of them did, Dominic had someone else. It could split their whole pack apart. I was way out of my element here.

I looked out the window as we passed the University on the way to the Omega House. I frowned, already reminded of Declan and how he worked there coaching his team. I saw someone walking by on the sidewalk and did a double-take. My heart leaped in my chest.

“Stop the car!” I yelled as the driver looked back at me with shock.

“But you’re stop is-”

“I don’t care, stop here!” They had barely pulled over as I jumped out and ran over to the man who was ambling along, looking at the buildings on campus. I stalked over to him, fury on my face. “You!” I pointed as I ran up to him. He turned to look at me, then smiled as recognition hit him. It was the man from the campsite.

“Well, surprised to see you again-”Smack. I cut his words off with a slap across his cheek.

“How dare you!” I shook with anger as he grabbed his face, stunned. “How dare you bring me here!” His eyes turned sympathetic as he took me in.

“An omega - just as I suspected.” He sighed and dropped his hand. “ I guess I deserved that slap. I didn’t think you’d actually end up here.” I stared at him, my nerves fried from the past week.

“Why did you do it?” He assessed me, looking me up and down. I suddenly felt very self-conscious.

“I could tell you were an omega from the first time I saw you. I have a sixth sense for such things. I could also sense you were absolutely miserable. I knew if you got a chance somewhere new, it might end up a lot easier for you. You just weren’t in the right world. Or at least, that’s what I thought. Youarelooking much better here.” I looked down at myself. I did probably look a lot better - I was eating healthier, wasn’t overworked, and not to mention I had just been railed by three hot men for the past week. I’m sure I had some glow leftover from that.
