“Liv. You’re doing it again.”

Olivia Jones glanced up at her father, grinning sheepishly. “I know. Just ten more minutes.”

“You know, when I told you that you’d have to work hard as CEO, I didn’t mean you should work yourself into a nervous breakdown.”

“I’m not having a nervous breakdown, Dad.”

“Not yet,” he muttered.

“Relax. Just ten more minutes and I’ll be done.”

Kane narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “I’ll wait for you.”

Shoot. There was no way Liv was staying much later. “Fine. I’ll see you in ten minutes.”

It was just two months since her father had promoted her to CEO, and it was a lot of work. He kept pushing her to maintain boundaries between work and her personal life, but Liv couldn’t help it that she loved her job.

She had helped him raise Aimee Enterprises from the ground up. The had started off as a small, struggling business, but they had grown into one of the most successful companies in the transport industry.

She was invested in their success, to say the least. When her mother, Aimee, died, Liv and her father got through it by leaning on each other, bringing them closer than they had ever been before. Liv knew that it was unusual for an adult daughter to be living with her father still, but she didn’t care about what other people thought. They were both happy with the way things were.

Unfortunately, she knew that her father was right. She did need to work on allocating herself more free time.

So, after ten minutes, she regretfully closed the folder she was working on and got up. Kane was waiting for her.

“Let’s go out to dinner tonight.”

They usually had dinner at home after a long day, saving nights out for weekends, but Liv wasn’t opposed to the idea. “Sure. Joe’s Diner?”

“Exactly what I was thinking.” Liv had a weakness for cheese burgers. She made up for it with going to the gym every morning before work, but she knew that it wasn’t exactly healthy, no matter how much time she spent working out.

Stacy zeroed in on them the moment they walked into the diner. She knew that they were regulars who were always polite and tipped well.

“Hey Kane, Liv. The usual, I take it?”

“Please, Stacy. Olivia?”

“The same for me as well.”

Stacey bustled off to get their order ready while Kane looked out of the window.

“Everything ok, Dad? You seem tense.”

He sighed. “You know me too well. It’s… well, I have news.”

“Oh yeah?” ‘News’ could mean something good or bad, and Liv couldn’t help but worry. Was she not doing a good job as CEO? The company profits were at a record high, employee satisfaction was rated at nine and a half out of ten, and Liv was working as hard as she’d promised. Still, perhaps her father thought differently.

His voice brought her out of her anxious thoughts. “I proposed to Laura.”

“Oh!” That wasn’t what she’d been expecting. “Did she say yes?”

“She did.”

Liv leaned over the table to hug him. “I’m happy for you, Dad. I know how much you love her.”
