“Liv! Liv, wait!”

For a moment, Liv thought she was going mad, imagining Juliette’s voice, calling her back. But then Meg turned around, and Liv followed her gaze.

There was Juliette, her face red and blotchy, but her blue eyes blazing with passion as she pushed her way through the crowd, waving frantically at Liv.

What was she doing here? She was just going to make this harder on both of them; did she not know that? Perhaps Juliette thought that a goodbye would give her closure, but for Liv, it would just add more pain.

It was too late to prevent that now, though. She stepped out of the line, resigned to having this one last conversation with Juliette.

“Liv!”

Juliette skidded to a stop in front of her.

“Yes, Juliette?”

“I love you.”

Liv grimaced. “I love you too, Juliette. Not that it changes anything.”

“Yes, it does! It changes everything. Liv, I was so stupid before. Letting you go was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done in my life. I can’t take it back, but I can do my best to correct it.”

“Juliette, there’s nothing to correct. We can’t go back. I’ve already told you, I won’t live a lie. You –”

“I came out to my mom.”

Liv dropped her suitcase painfully on her foot. Meg snatched it up, leaving Liv’s toe throbbing, but she barely noticed it. “You… came out to your mom?”

“Yeah, I did. She wasn’t happy at first, but she promises that she’s going to work harder on acceptance. I think she’ll get there eventually, but even if she doesn’t… well, I choose you, Liv. I’d rather have you than her. You’re all I need, all I want. Please, Liv, will you take me back?”

Liv was still reeling from that little sentence, so small and yet so meaningful. I came out to my mom.

She wanted more than anything to take Juliette into her arms and kiss her, but that would only make it harder on both of them when they had to part. “Juliette… I’m moving to Europe. I’m sorry, but I don’t have it in me to do the long distance thing. We couldn’t –”

“No, you don’t understand. I know you’re moving to Europe… and I’m coming with you.”

It was a good thing Meg already had Liv’s suitcase, because she was sure she would have dropped it again. “You… what?”

“I’m coming with you to Europe. I understand if you can’t forgive me yet. I can wait. I’ll rent my own place, and I’ll earn your trust, bit by bit. I’ll do whatever it takes. The only thing I won’t do is give up on you – on us. We have something precious, Liv – too precious to lose. I’m sorry it took me so long to see that.”

Liv stared at Juliette, the most beautiful woman she had ever met. Was this divine creature truly offering her everything she had ever wanted, or was this some cruel dream, taunting her while hard reality got ready to thrash her when she woke up?

“Liv? Please, say something.”

If this was a dream, Liv would take it.

She was lost for words. Instead of trying to find the right ones, she stepped forward and pulled Juliette into her arms. Their lips met in a kiss that was both tentative and sweet. Liv could feel the joy and triumph radiating from Juliette as they kissed.

The need to be sure had Liv pulling back. “Are you certain about this, Juliette? Moving to Europe is a big deal. Is this truly what you want?”

“I want to be with you. I don’t care what part of the world that’s in. Besides, I hear Belgium has great chocolate. How bad can it really be if we have world-class chocolate to come home to at the end of the day?”

Liv couldn’t help it. She laughed. “Yeah, there is that.”

“So you’ll take me?”

“Oh, Juliette, of course I will. You’re all I want as well.”

“If you two are done, we’d best get boarding, or we’re going to miss our flight,” Meg pointed out.
