Puffing up, she asked, “Do you mind, sir?”

“I don’t mind at all.”

No remorse. Not even a speck could she find in her husband’s response.

Her robe was strung across the back of a chair. She stomped over to it, picked it up—no doubt giving Garret a direct look at her backside—and flung it in front of herself. There.

She arched her eyebrows and waited, only barely resisting the urge to either tap her foot or throw the porcelain vase on the dresser at him. “You left me abandoned and confused last night,” she accused him.

Garret pushed the door wide open and shrugged. “So?”

Her mouth fell open. “Aren’t you tired of being rude?”

“I’ll never tire of that. What was it you said last night? You accept me cussin’? Accept the rudeness, too. Your life will be happier.”

“You werewolves and your mood changes are awful! I can’t keep up!”

Garret leaned against the doorframe. Stubborn man. “I like this nightdress. It’s like you’re not wearing anything at all.” He waved his hand in the general direction of her body. “You can wear it around me anytime you want.”

“Oh, look but don’t touch, is it? Sounds very unsatisfying for me.”

With a rakish grin, he unbuttoned the top button on his shirt. “I’ll match you.”

“Don’t you dare.” Though she shook her head at him, vehement, she was unable to take her gaze from his fingers reaching for the second button. The next one popped open. Oh God. She could see the perfect line between his defined pec muscles. He unbuttoned another.

Eliza crossed her arms over her chest and lifted her chin higher into the air. “Do what you like. I am unaffected.” The clenching in her abdomen thoroughly disagreed.

“Lie.”

Stupid werewolf and stupid werewolf senses. “It’s not fair that you have powers that I don’t.”

“Life ain’t fair.”

Eliza’s eye twitched. “Have you come in here at this atrocious hour to make sure my day starts out on the wrong foot?”

“Maybe I missed you, or maybe I wanted to ruin your day.”

Unwilling to play childish games, she turned away.

“Nice tits and a nice ass.”

With a gasp, she launched herself at the bed and yanked the covers off and in front of her. Garret’s stupid glowing eyes looked at her happily, having just received an eyeful of the silhouette of her posterior.

“Insufferable ass!” She chucked a pillow at him, but damn him and his animal reflexes, he blurred and shut the door. His ridiculous booming laugh sounded from the other side.

“I’ll claw your eyes out, Garret Shaw!” she shrieked.

“Okay, all right! Truce,” he offered as he carefully peeked into the doorway. “I came in here for a reason.”

Clutching the covers to her chest, she let her frustration show on her face.

“I need to go into town for a supply run. Thought maybe you’d like to come along.”

His offer took her aback, and she was very suspicious of his politeness.

“This isn’t a trick?” she asked.

“Not at the moment, but I’ll probably want to kick you out of the wagon about thirty seconds after we leave here,” he answered. Well, at least the barf-hole was honest. “Want to go with me?”
