“Make sure they grab Eric and bring him down to negotiations as well.”

I curse under my breath. I hadn’t been thinking about her father. It makes me sick to think he might be involved in the kidnapping of his daughter, putting her in danger by putting her in the hands of another family. The man has a god complex, one that is going to get himself or someone else killed.

Chapter Thirty-Nine- Enzo

Oleg, Eric, and some bald man I don’t recognize are tied to chairs. They’re each in separate rooms, but I can see all of them from the computer monitor in front of me. No one has got any fucking useful information so far, and I can feel the rage burning in my gut.

When we got to the house, my mom and Bianca had been in the living room with the unconscious bald man with obvious head trauma and a low-level guard who had been stabbed to death. My mom had been pale as a ghost, while Bianca looked mildly annoyed the man dared to bleed out on the new rug.

Santiago, the dead man, was a new recruit. Someone who should have never had access to the house, especially not when my son and fiancée had been there. Her guard, the one I assigned to her, is nowhere to be found. The footage from the living room camera is completely corrupted. And Emma is missing.

I want answers.

And there’s going to be hell to pay for everyone involved in this.

The only person who knows what happened in the living room is the bald man. It took a while for him to gain consciousness, even with smelling salts, but he refuses to talk. Not that anyone has tried too hard to break him yet. They’re saving him for me.

“Found Marco.”

Andy comes to stand behind me. One of the first questions I had was where the hell my wife’s guard was. He should have been in the room with her when everything happened, and he should have contacted me as soon as he got them out.

“Where is he?” I grunt.

“Dead. Single gunshot to the head in his apartment. Probably been dead over 24 hours.”

“Then why the hell did Dante ever leave? He wasn’t supposed to leave until Marco showed up.”

“Dante says you called him and told him there had been a change in plans and that Santiago would take over for him.”

What the fuck? I never said that. The look on Andy’s face tells me he already knows. “Checked his phone and tracked the call. It came from inside the house, but I think Eric is the one who made the call.”

Out of the three men we’ve tied up, Eric has been the calmest. He’s accepted his death, or he thinks he’s invincible. Unfortunately for him, I don’t care he’s Emma’s father anymore. He’s already received too much grace from the family and he’s turned around to spit in our face. Emma will never have to know how painful his death is going to be, but I’m sick of his smug face and arrogant attitude trying to make decisions that aren’t his to make. Only an idiot thinks he can win this battle. Emma will be better off, and safer, with him gone.

I’ll leave him for last. No one has brought him any food since breakfast, and I refuse to give him lunch. There isn’t time to properly starve him. Too much is on the line for the luxury of the long game. I have other tricks up my sleeve, but I’m in no rush to make him comfortable. He can be hungry and thirsty while I get through the others.

It’s time for him to fucking suffer.

“Find out what ear Dante used to take that call, and cut it off. Maybe it’ll remind him next time not to take such asinine orders. If it’s about my wife, he better see my fucking lips moving before he takes them.”

Andy fills me in on the rest of the information they’ve gathered. It’s not nearly enough to get a clear picture. There had been a cell phone jammer in the living room that had blocked any cell signal. It must have taken insider information to time the abduction correctly because while we had been in the meeting, my mom, sisters, and Bianca had all been out shopping for dresses for the wedding. Emma had been left home alone with a traitor and no way to contact anyone.

“Any information on baldy?”

“Ivan Mikhaylov, Russian gun-for-hire. I’d like to say we can link him to Oleg because they’re both Russian, but Ivan doesn’t show any loyalties. From what I’ve been able to gather, he reports to the highest bidder. No wife, no kids. He has a sister back in Russia, but it doesn’t look like he’s contacted her since 2015.”

I scowl at the information. Most likely, Oleg still hired the man, but I would have liked a more solid tie. Doesn’t matter. Neither man is leaving here alive, even if Oleg isn’t the one who hired him.

My father has left me to the interrogations while he prepares for the war this is going to start. Oleg’s family is going to retaliate. They’re probably already preparing to since Oleg hasn’t returned from the meeting and it’s been several hours. Maybe Nina is experiencing some of the fear I’m feeling about my missing fiancée.

I’ll send her father’s head to her.

For mourning, of course.

“There’s a chance Emma got away and went into hiding with Matteo,” Andy says. I suck in a deep breath. The idea has occurred to me. Not only were the two captors incapacitated, but one of the off-roading vehicles is missing. No cars have come on or off the property, but there is the possibility the recreational vehicle would have been able to slip onto the neighbors’ property undetected. But once Emma got far enough away from the living room with the jammer, then she would have been able to use her cell phone again to call me. She hasn’t. This means if she got away, not only is she running away from her captors, but she’s running away from me as well.

I don’t like the thought. Everyone is thinking about it, but no one besides Andy has been brave enough to bring it up with me. Other uncomfortable questions get attached to that line of thinking. Like, will I let her go?

No. I’ll bring her back and chain her to my bed if I have to.
