And now she was laughing, and suddenly he’d bent down and swept her into his arms and they were crouched together, laughing incredulously.

Tor kissed her, husking, “Holy fuck, that was mind-blowing. How did you do that? I think my knot has been sucked dry by those beautiful lips of yours. Holy shit, it’s gone completely.” He looked between his legs with mock incredulity.

“You idiot!” Shona burst out laughing, full of inexplicable happiness. She’d never had so much fun with a guy.

Now they were giggling like kids and she didn’t even care if her menses was making a bit of a mess, it was just so intimate and beautiful, because this… this was them being open, raw, honest with one another.

And then he got up and handed her a towel and wiped himself with another.

“And now I’m going to let you do what women do and put yourself back together, my pet. I’m off make us breakfast.”

“But—what time does your plane leave for Selig?”

“When I tell the pilot I’m ready. And right now, cooking you breakfast is better than any award in the goddamn world.”

It was a good hour later when Tor finally made a move to leave, after a delicious breakfast of creamy scrambled eggs on toast and thin rashers of bacon.

She wound her arms around his chest and kissed him all the way down the hall, their feet shuffling together. Barefoot, she couldn’t reach him, even on tippy toes, so he picked her up, cradling her against his big chest and kissing her as he strode to the door.

In the doorway, she kissed him some more, then slid down his body.

“I’m going to miss you, big green guy,” she sighed, opening the front door.

“I’ll miss you too, but I’ll be back tomorrow, banging on your door. In fact, I may just walk out of here and have to come straight back for another kiss. I can’t get enough of you, pet.”

To prove it, he came bounding back through the door and swept her into another kiss.

She laughed, kissing him back, intoxicated. Maybe even a little in love.

“Now you really have to go,” she ordered.

He made a grunt of dissatisfaction as he gently put her down on the doorstep. He turned to blow her a kiss from one big palm, just as his hover cab arrived.

Shona shut the door and leaned against it with a big sigh of happiness.

His kindness and consideration for her needs, then their passionate lovemaking just now in the shower, the tenderness with which he’d touched her, loved her, even during her menses—it all added up to one thing. Even though this was so new, she was ready to trust Tor with her heart. She was sure of it.

She’d just started to walk back down the passage, ready to start her day, when there was a sharp rap on the door.

Her lips shaped a grin and her heart turned to mush. The silly guy. He would be seriously late for his big event if he kept coming back for more.

But how could she resist another kiss?

She ran to open the door. Flung it wide.

And froze.

“Hello, little dove,” purred Matteus. “Happy to see me?”

Chapter

Sixteen

All the hairs on Shona’s neck stood up at the sight of the vampire in front of her.

Handsome, yes, but oh, so dangerous.

He was dressed all in black—black suit, black shirt, impeccable as always, his raven hair swept back off his sharply angled bone structure. Cobalt eyes narrowed as they swept over her. “Aren’t you going to ask me in, little dove?”
