“So um, how do you start the day.” It came out almost a squeak.

“I shower. Dress. Drink my first coffee. Then I play the piano. I find it focuses my mind.”

Unbidden now, Min imagined him seating himself at the piano, arranging his tail behind him as though it was the tails of a dress coat and laying those long fingers on the keys.

As if reading her thoughts, he said, “I hope my appearance,” he swept a green hand down his body, “is not off-putting to you.”

Min shook her head vigorously. “Not at all.” Goddess, far from it, it would seem, after her little fantasy about him at the piano.

She felt telltale heat climbing her cheeks again, knowing how easily her pale skin gave away her emotions.

She scanned down the question: How do you show affection? She had absolutely no idea how to even begin to address that.

But thankfully before there was any need to say anything else, in walked Adina.

“How did your tête-à-tête go?” She beamed at them.

“Very well thank you,” Min said primly. “I mean, I think so…” She glanced at Ethan, who nodded with a smirk. “Like a house on fire,” he said, then palmed his forehead.

Min couldn’t help a giggle. Glancing at her, his face suddenly relaxed, and he chuckled. “Er… maybe not the best phrase to use.”

“Well, you clearly share the same sense of humor. Which is a big plus in these kinds of arrangements,” Adina said.

They both nodded, still smirking—like two naughty school kids, Min decided.

She wondered if they’d passed their exam.

“Well then, Min and Ethan, if you feel ready, let’s go back to my office, and sign those papers.”

CHAPTER 5

Ethan’s PA, Sonia, poked her head round the door of his office. “Minerva Westwind has arrived.”

Ethan felt his scales tighten. “Right.”

“Shall I go fetch her from reception?”

He stood up abruptly, sending his coffee cup flying. “No, I’ll go down and greet her myself.”

“And I’ll clear that up.” Sonia smirked.

Ethan couldn’t help casting a glance at himself in the mirrored wall panel in the elevator. He’d made sure he’d looked his best this morning—trimmed the tiny scales around his jaw, spruced back the ones on his head with Iron Hold, the special hair gel for dragons.

Now he adjusted his tie, did up one button of his suit jacket, then blinked. Gods, he hoped his dragon blink wouldn’t be too hard for her to take on a daily basis.

This is a business arrangement. It doesn’t matter what she thinks of your blink, mate.

He tightened his lips.

Thank the gods Min had agreed to the liaison, because he really didn’t want to work his way through a whole list of possible humans. When his copy of their signed agreement had landed on his desk, he’d immediately got his PA to arrange a meeting to discuss the finer details. Adina had been right; Min was perfect, and the Westwind name… well, that was a major asset. Now he just had to make it work. Correction, they both had to make it work. She needed his money. He needed her name. Win-win.

And no doubt about it, she would be pleasant to have around for a month…

He felt his heart lurch at the possibility that the airport deal might get delayed, meaning she’d have to date him for longer.

And then what? When they split…

Ethan felt his chest squeeze.
