CHAPTER 15

“Will that be all, sir?” The skink waiter removed the dessert plates with a little bow. “Can I bring you coffee, tea, chocolates?”

“Min?” Ethan raised his eyebrows at her across the candle-lit table, and she smiled and shook her head.

After their awkward conversation when he got home, which Ethan put down to nerves on both their parts, it seemed a few glasses of fine Avella Hills champagne and a delicious meal, the smell of orange blossom all around, and a soft, nearly full moon hanging in the sky had put them both in the right headspace.

Which was a fucking good thing, since very soon they’d get the cue that there was a photographer poised and ready.

“Maybe just another half glass of bubbles, please.” Min smiled, a little boss-eyed, at the waiter, who poured it and then left.

“Are you sure that’s a good idea? You don’t usually drink much.”

“Not champagne, I agree. My drink of choice is rum.”

“Rum!”

She shrugged, twirling the glass between her fingertips. “I keep a bottle under the counter, so I can take a swig between customers.”

“Min!”

She giggled again. “Westwind humor, just ignore me.”

Ethan’s lips quirked. “I should know by now.”

“Comes out when I least expect it, so I don’t even know myself. Dad was prone to making very inappropriate jokes about high-society humans—usually when they were within earshot.”

“That would have made him popular. My experience with high breeds is they’re generally a humorless bunch. Present company excepted, of course.”

“Very glad you added that addendum. I would hate to be associated with high breeds. Dad loved stirring the pot, poking fun at their conventions. We rarely got invited to Tween events. Not, may I add, that we were worried by that.”

“I guess opening a bookshop dedicated to monster books would have been enough to ensure that.”

“Most definitely. They loved our name… just not us.”

He watched her put the glass to her lips and slug back two big mouthfuls. She smiled hazily at him across the rim.

“Delicious.” She sighed. “I feel like I’m really living it up.”

“Min, maybe slow it down a bit, or I’ll be carrying you back…”

“Mmm, we could just fly up to the balcony.”

Fly with her. To their room. Ye gods. A sudden fantasy overtook him of gliding with her in his arms, landing on the bed, nuzzling into her neck. Feeling his cocks nudging into the soft, dark heat of her pussy. His secondary cock would tease between her folds until she cried out her readiness to take all of him.

Back up the truck, Blade.

But how could he when she was looking at him like that, twirling a little copper lock of hair around her finger, those two little dimples playing close to her lush lips.

“Shouldn’t we be flirting wildly? To get in the mood…” She drained her glass and blinked at him, her eyebrows bouncing comically.

Ah, this Min, when she loosened up, how he loved being around her. And hey, why not? Flirting would definitely loosen them both up, make their kiss look like the real thing.

He poured himself half a glass more of bubbles. “Okay, you start.”

“Oh no, no. You’re the experienced dater.”

“Not of late.” He grimaced.
