“Lovely to see you too, Ginge.” Min smirked.

Bonnie soon returned and handed Min a steaming mug.

“Okay, so what’s this all about?”

Min hesitated, then sank down into a chair. Bonnie sat opposite, cupping her mug in her hands.

“I—um—the day I started my internship, we… I met… that is…” Min ground to a halt, biting her lip. This was stupid, she couldn’t lie to Bonnie. They’d been friends for too long. She trusted her to keep a secret.

She stared at her fingers, wrapped around her favorite mug, the one that read “Monster Boyfriends are better.” She wished it was true.

“I’m fake dating Ethan Blade,” she blurted.

“Fake dating?”

“Yep.”

“My oh my! But… but those photos of you together… and that article. It looks so… real. You mean it’s all a lie? You’re play-acting?”

Min nodded miserably.

“Why?”

“Because I’m trying to save the Westerly.”

Bonnie’s eyes looked like they were about to bounce right out of her head.

In a halting voice, Min explained about Quentin’s visit, and the rental agreement terminating, about Adina and the peacock coat, and Midas Touch Partnerships, about meeting Ethan and their fake-dating arrangement.

When she was finished, Bonnie looked genuinely sad. “Oh, if only I was rich, then you wouldn’t have to pretend to be in love with a dragon.”

“Honestly, it’s not so bad.” Min thrust a lock of hair behind her ear as a memory of Ethan’s tail between her legs made her pussy clench. “I mean, he’s a real gentleman and… His family, his mom and his brother, I kind of… I don’t know, I just seem to get on with them really well.”

Bonnie laughed. “You have always had an affinity with us monster kind, like your dad I guess.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, Bonnie. I hate lying, especially to you, but since you don’t go on social media, I thought you wouldn’t find out, at least not until it was all over.”

“I probably wouldn’t have if it wasn’t for the customers. They started coming into the shop and showing me their news feeds. One of them brought in an article from The Motham Times. You both looked genuinely in love. The way he was gazing at you… and you him.”

“He's a good actor,” Min said, gulping down a mouthful of hot tea.

“Yeah, you must be too.” Bonnie looked pensive. “And then another guy who knows you came into the shop yesterday. Right peeved, he was.”

Min frowned. “Monster or human?”

“Human. Said he works for the Council of Towns. Quentin somebody or other.”

Min sat bolt upright. “What did he want?”

“He more or less demanded to know where you were. I think he said, where the hell were you. He was rude, I didn’t like his vibe.”

“What did you tell him?”

“That you’d had to go away for a month, and I didn’t know where. I’m sure he didn’t believe me, because he kept ranting and raving about you playing games. I’d seen the pics by then, but I kept quiet. He just went on and on about you selling out on the Westwind name.”

Min’s forehead tightened. “Then what?”

“He stormed out, saying he was going to get to the bottom of this, and that if you thought dating a dragon was going to help your cause you had another think coming. I didn’t know what he was on about, but now I realize he must have been talking about the bookshop.”
