I’m playing a dangerous game by claiming Valentina for myself. By teasing her and stealing her away from right under their noses.

But what’s life without a little chaos thrown into the mix?

As we wander closer to the sound of crashing ocean waves, I can’t keep the grin off my face. I’m going to have so much fun toying with my girl.

She catches me staring at her and has the decency to blush pretty pink all for me.

My new favorite color.

Valentina brushes dark curls over her shoulder and attempts to braid them. She avoids my gaze, her cheeks still faintly flushed, and busies herself with her hands. “You’re staring again.”

I watch her fingers’ nimble movements with mute fascination. She’s not even paying attention to what she’s doing; it’s automatic. The braid comes out perfect, despite the tumultuous sea breeze attempting to thwart her efforts.

How many hidden talents does she have?

Which ones involve those dexterous fingers?

“I’m allowed to stare,” I say simply. She couldn’t stop me from staring if she tried.

“It’s indecent.” Her lips purse ever so slightly, like she’s tasted something sour. “You look like a madman.”

My tongue slides out across my upper lip, and her eyes catch the movement. She blushes harder.

Will she tell me I taste like a madman too?

The urge to steal a kiss from her while she’s distracted pumps like lead through my veins, powerful and demanding. I bet catching her by surprise would be even more delectable than the kiss itself.

I draw a deep breath, imagining the wide-eyed shock rendering her completely still in my arms. Her body warm against mine. Her lips soft, pliant.

Tempting, but it’ll have to wait.

Instead of feeding my inner demons, I pull off my Oxfords and socks and set them aside. “At least I’m not about to walk the beach in my shoes.” I stare pointedly at her feet.

A rush of pride rolls through me at seeing the shoes I bought her hugging her soles. White leather looks good on her skin. I’ll have to buy more for her.

With a huff, she kicks off her shoes and haphazardly sets them beside mine. Before I can snag her arm, she starts walking away from me and down the short boardwalk to the beach. I take my time following her, enjoying the way the sun plays on her dark hair and highlights the tiniest slips of skin on display.

Namely, her neck.

The gray sweater she has on does little for her figure, and I think back to all the gifts I brought her this afternoon. If she’d put any number of them on, she’d look even more ravishing right now than she already does.

She curves her spine to glance over her shoulder at me and quickly turns back around when she realizes that, yes, I’m still staring.

She’ll learn soon enough that I’m always going to be watching.

When she reaches the edges of the waves and the rolling water touches her toes, she shrieks and jumps back. “It’s freezing!”

I’m not sure what she expected. It’s nearly winter.

She turns to look at me again, and the way her mouth opens in a shocked little o makes mine water. Eyebrows raised, cheeks flushed, sunset playing in her eyes...

Desire curls low in my loins, and I bare my teeth at her, raking my eyes across the curve of her neck, the swell of her plush breasts, down the arch of her back.

She’s too distracted to resist, so I close the distance between us in one graceful swoop. Laying my arm across her waist, I drag her away from the rising tide kissing at her heels. “Careful, malyshka, or you might get pulled in.”

Pursing her full lips and crinkling her nose at me, she makes a sour face but doesn’t pull away, and that is the first of many small victories I intend to collect.

“By what, the Loch Ness monster?” She scoffs.
