My grip on the steering wheel tightens.

“So, tell me about your boyfriend,” I say suddenly, interrupting the horrible silence between us. “What’s he like?”

Valentina tenses beside me. “That’s none of your business.”

She’s still mad at me, but I’m the one trying to keep her safe. She doesn’t need to defend a fucking stalker.

“Actually, it is. If he’s going to come after me for tongue-fucking his girl, I need to know what I’m up against?—”

Valentina snarls, and I fucking love it. “You’re not touching me ever again.” Her eyes flash like emerald fire, and it takes every ounce of my willpower not to stare.

I slow the car down to a crawl. “Don’t be like that, malyshka. I can kill your grandmother and your boyfriend and make you come all in one night.” I press my tongue against the inside of my cheek with a smile.

Yeah, that sounds like a perfect night.

“You’re fucking sick,” she seethes, crossing her arms tight and hugging herself. “Just take me home and go fuck off. I’m done with you.”

I could let her sit with her anger, thinking she’s right in all her fury.

But I won’t.

“I assure you, Valentina, I’m not the sick one here.”

Her eyes snap to me, and a shiver runs down my spine. If looks could kill, I’d be dead in a heartbeat. I imagine her holding a gun to my head as she gives me one final kiss goodbye. Sitting in my lap. Yes, wearing a little black dress. Rucked up to her hips, with nothing on underneath?—

Okay, I’m a little demented compared to the average person, I’ll admit that.

“You don’t know either of them.” A beat passes before a look crosses her face. “Unless you know something. Mikhail. Mikhail.” She snaps her fingers to get my attention. “Look at me.”

“Driving,” I reply merrily, gesturing toward the road. We’re crawling at ten miles per hour, and she throws her hands up in outrage.

“We’re not even going anywhere! Will you look at me?”

I flick my gaze toward my girl. Her eyes dance with turmoil as she battles her desires. A thirst for secrets. A need for security. A hunger for intimacy.

All things I can give her, in time.

“Yes, love?”

Her face flushes prettily and her breath catches in her throat.

Fucking breathtaking.

I grin at her and adjust my grip on the steering. “Hold on. We’re going for a little joy ride.” I gun the gas, and we both jerk back into our seats.

Valentina screams as I take a corner at double the appropriate speed, and I revel in the sound.

We reach our destination in record time, and I circle the block just to spend more time with Valentina. She clings to the leather seat with a death grip, and I reach over to hold her hand.

She tries to pull it from my grasp, but I hold on tight, refusing to let go. Her responding glare makes my heart soar.

I love when her attention’s all on me.

As we pull up to the curb and I cut the engine, I have to take a breath to calm down. My heart’s racing, and I’m liable to do something reckless if I’m not careful.

Valentina has, surprisingly, cooled off. The adrenaline rush cut through some of her anger, and she’s breathing clear and deep now that we’ve parked and the adrenaline is fading.

I press a kiss to her knuckles. I wish the danger was over, but I have a feeling it’s only going to get worse from here. There’s no telling when or where Katya’s going to appear, and Valentina’s stalker is Bratva.
