A fire burns in her eyes, as a spell readies itself on her hand.

Curiously, she seems drawn to my presence, and not to the several werewolves and vampires congregated around me.

“It’s okay Rory,” I try to reassure her.

“Bullshit it is!” She screams. “I told her to stay far away from you, all this time! I said-”

“Rory.”

Ren moves beside me, intercepting Rory’s forward assault toward me.

“Do you see Quinn anywhere in this room?” He asks her.

She looks at the corpses in front of her, nearly gagging as she does. She doesn’t want to be here right now, and I don’t blame her.

“We’re going to find Quinn, and we’d like you to join us,” Ren says. “Caspian has done nothing but protect her. He wants to save her. Please help.”

She bites her lip, then nods, the spell in her hand evaporating.

QUINN

My senses are overwhelmed before I even open my eyes. A smell fills my nostrils that resembles blood. My ears are swelling from the commotion around me, perhaps more sensitive than usual for some reason.

I moan as I wake up, my brain still convincing me that this is some dream, not my current reality.

“Caspian?” I moan, feeling a mouth roaming around my arm, feeding on me.

As my eyelids lift, I realize that the smell I’m sensing is my blood, and see a hideous-looking vampire gnawing on my arm. And with that, the sensation of pleasure I was feeling instantly turns to panic.

“Hope you don’t mind,” the older, white-haired vampire says, smirking. “Venom could start working any minute now, so I told my buddies to get some while the getting’s good.”

I attempt to free my arm and smack the hideous-looking vampire chewing on it away from me, but discover that not only am I not able to move my joints. The slightest movement of my arm just rattles the chains bound around my entire body.

“Why are you doing this?” I ask weakly, my eyes almost shutting on their own. My body really doesn’t want me to be awake right now. “What did I ever do to you?”

“Do you remember when we came to your little bar, and you threatened us with holy water?” The white-haired vampire asks me. “You upset poor little Crag… shook up a little vampire gang warfare for no reason. That made us a little grouchy.”

I smirk, and am surprised that those muscles in my face even still work.

“Is that really all?” I ask him. “Your guy throws a tantrum at the bar where I work, and you decide to attack me.”

He smiles, then starts laughing wildly. His vampire friends all loudly join in.

“I like you, girl!” He says. “For that, you’ll get to know my name before I kill you.”

He moves closer to me… close enough for me to bite into his ear. It’s very tempting.

“Name’s Alastair Whitewood. We’re the Moonlight Sentinels. And your boyfriend is going to die.”

Without thinking, I use what energy I have to spit in his face. I’m surprised when I let out a tarry black substance, and his face begins to sizzle at the spot.

He snarls at me.

“You bitch!” He yells, slapping my face. The pain is immense, and I feel like with the venom coursing through me, every sensation is so much more intense now.

He collects himself quickly, turning his rage into a conceited and twisted version of glee.
