When he breaks the kiss, I inhale a gasping breath as I belatedly realize how long I’ve just gone without oxygen.

His thumb strokes along my bottom lip, voice gone husky when he speaks. “I’m not going to be able to stop.”

An unspoken warning laces his tone. He isn’t only talking about this moment, but all the moments that will inevitably come after. The further that we fall into this abyss, the less likely it will be that either of us will ever see the light of day again.

Maybe I want to embrace the darkness.

“I don’t want you to stop.” My arms wrap around his neck as I pull him down to the bed with me.

He catches himself on his hands as my back hits the mattress, his body looming over mine even though he isn’t quite touching me.

His eyes search mine in the dim lamplight. “Last chance.”

“Don’t stop.” My frantic hands pull on the fabric of his shirt, though I don’t do much more than pull it halfway up his chest. “Drake—”

He interrupts me with another hard kiss, lips urgent against mine.

Sparks of agonizing pleasure trip down my skin, following the path his hands take as they stroke my neck and then my sides. It feels like enough electricity to raise the tiny hairs on my arms and make my heart skip beats.

It’s the same spark that burst along my skin the first time that I ever touched him. The spark that I’ve been doing my best to ignore because this is supposed to be strictly business.

A spark that only needs the smallest bit of kindling to burn us both alive.

My hips grind against the thigh he forces between my legs. But the more frenzied that I become, the more Drake seems to collect himself. His chuckle rumbles against my lips as my fingers fumble with the button of his jeans.

He grabs my wrists and forces them down on either side of my head, openly laughing at my sound of protest.

His mouth trails along my chin, and he places a nipping kiss at the line of my jaw. “You need to relax.”

“You need to go faster.”

When I push against his hold on my wrists, he holds them tight. “No, I don’t.”

The aggression that I desperately want is gone, replaced with lips that are soft as satin as they trail downward. Stubble abrades the sensitive skin of my neck, making me shiver.

A wild feeling builds inside my chest, like the sensation of standing on the edge of a cliff moments before you jump. It doesn’t matter that we’re in a seedy motel room on the outskirts of a shit kick town. I don’t care that the sheets are practically a single thread count and under any other circumstances, I’d be worried about catching something.

The only thing that matters is how badly I want to be with him.

Several loud knocks on the door startle us apart. My frantic gaze flies to Drake’s face as the passion in his narrowed eyes turns malevolent.

“That better not be who the fuck I think it is,” he growls.

I hear the sound of a card sliding through the lock. Whoever is on the other side tries to push the door open, but is stopped by the deadbolt.

Before I can stop him, Drake leaps up from the bed and strides across the room. When he rips open the door, I catch a glimpse of the desk clerk’s shocked face before Drake hits him hard in the gut.

I’m off the bed by the third blow because I doubt Drake has any plans to stop on his own.

“Enough!” It takes all my body weight to hold on to Drake’s arm long enough for the clerk to make a run for it. “Just let him go before you get arrested.”

He lets me yank him back far enough that the door slams shut, but the tension doesn’t leave his body.

“Are you okay?” he asks, finally.

“I’m fine. It’s better that we got interrupted.” I take a step back, a burning heat still in my belly. I don’t want to know what would have happened if that clerk hadn’t chosen this moment to get all rapey. “That was a mistake.”

Drake turns to me with fire in his eyes. “We’re getting you the hell out of here.”
