But I recognize that look in his eyes, it’s the one he wears when he doesn’t want anyone to know what he is really thinking. The tension in his body is apparent to me from across the room, but I doubt anyone else can see it.

Even though I know in my heart that he would rather be anywhere but here, that doesn’t make this any easier to watch.

He murmurs something to the girl practically writhing in his lap as she turns and wraps her arms around his neck.

Our gazes meet over her shoulder, and I force myself to look away.

“Still interested after all this time because it looks like he’s moved on?” A voice whispers the question maliciously in my ear.

I turn to see Nolan standing beside me. I’d been too distracted to notice that he’d gotten so close to me. “There are naked women everywhere and you’re the one over here bothering me.”

“Don’t flatter yourself,” he scoffs. “I’m not interested in anyone’s sloppy seconds. Although, I guess in your case that would be sloppy hundredths. Makes you wonder if there’s anyone left around here that hasn’t gotten a ride.”

He gives me a derisive once-over, but I notice the way his gaze lingers on my chest where the maid outfit reveals more than it hides.

“You haven’t,” I taunt. “And just to be clear, I wouldn’t fuck you with a vagina made out of rubber that I got from a thrift store.”

“You’ll do whatever you’re told, pledge.”

“Not on your fucking life.”

“Pledges up on the stage,” Nolan commands, raising his voice loud enough for everyone here. “We’re here for a show.”

It makes it a little easier that I’m not the only person being forced to suffer through this ridiculous ritual. The other pledges get up on the stage and awkwardly dance to the techno music blasting out of the speakers.

One of the strippers gets on the stage with us and wraps a long feather boa around the neck of a pledge as she dances with him. The poor guy doesn’t seem to have any idea where to put his hands.

“Where’s Brady?” Cole asks as he slides into a seat.

Nolan peels another bill off the stack in his hand and tucks in the G-string of a passing stripper. “Back at his hotel nursing a hangover and an apparent head injury.”

“Too bad. He’s missing a good time.” Cole notices me watching and raises an eyebrow. “Can we help you, pledge?”

My gaze moves back to the corner where Drake has to be getting the longest lap dance ever. The girl has a wide smile on her face as she leans over to whisper something in his ear.

I can’t watch anymore.

“I need to go to the bathroom.” I announce.

Nolan laughs. “Just piss in the corner like the dog you are.”

I glare at him. “It’s a feminine emergency, unless you’d like to let me borrow one of your tampons.”

His face screws up in obvious disgust. “Jesus. Just go.”

Bringing up periods is always the best way to get away from a guy with no questions asked.

The first man who tries to proposition me on the way to the bathroom just gets ignored. The second one, I politely decline through clenched teeth. The third ends up with my heel of my shoe jammed onto his toes.

A hand touches my ass as I pass by a table of men, and I spin around with a death glare as I slap it away. “No touching.”

The guy half-rises from his chair. “What the hell…”

“I’m always up for a good time.” A dancer slides in between us with the ease of long practice, a come-hither smile on her face. “How are you boys doing tonight?”

I manage to make it to the bathroom without any more problems, relieved to find that it appears to be empty. Since I don’t actually have to use the facilities, I go to the sink to wash my hands.
