Good thing he taught me how to use it.

He sidles up to Kody, pressing his groin against Kody’s backside. Then his hands start roaming, fondling, molesting.

The instant he strokes Kody’s groin, I see fire. I smell carnage. I feel bloodshed and damnation raining red on my world. But in the slaughter of my mind, I find a sense of calm. A numb resoluteness.

Kneeling beside my pack, I remove the first-aid kit and set it beside the pipe. Sitting back on my heels, I angle the gun between the bars and train it on Denver’s thigh.

He sinks a hand into Kody’s hair, his other working between Kody’s legs, as his mouth devours every inch of flesh within reach.

He doesn’t see me as a threat.

That will be his last mistake.

I line up the shot.

Their bodies are so close, practically melded together. The margin for error is razor thin. A miss by a mere inch will hit the wrong man.

I won’t fucking miss.

Steady.

Time crawls to a halt.

Inhale.

My heart falls quiet.

Exhale.

With a rush of adrenaline, I squeeze the trigger.

The shot goes wild, grazing Denver’s pants and punching through the wall.

Denver jolts, stumbling back to check the rip on his leg.

Perfect.

I fire again.

He yelps, chokes, and collapses on the floor, clutching his thigh.

Bullseye.

Blood spurts between his fingers, soaking his pants in dark crimson.

“You bitch. You fucking whore! What have you done?” His curses bounce off the walls, thick with shock and agony. He struggles to rise, only to slip in his blood, crashing back down with a thud. “Fuck!”

“I hit an artery. You’ll bleed out in five minutes.” I coldly set the gun aside and grab the first-aid kit and pipe, ready to negotiate the terms of his survival. “Knowing how to staunch arterial bleeding might save your life.”

“Jesus, Frankie.” Breathless, Kody tries to free himself. “What have you done?”

Teeth gnashing, Denver clamps his hands on the wound, tries to resist the pain, but his defiance weakens. He lets loose a keening cry of anguish.

I savor the sound. “Four minutes.”

“Give her the combination.” He sags against the wall, his life slipping away in slick red spurts. “Hurry, boy!”

Wild, beautiful life sparks in Kody’s eyes as he sets them on me. Then he spits out the numbers.

I dial them in, snatch his coat, and race toward him to drop the heavy fur over his shoulders. Then I kneel beside Denver.

“How do we repair the generator?” I grip his blood-soaked thigh. “Did you remove a part? Cut a cable?”

“It’s the flux capacitor.”

“What?” My brows pull together.

“Harness lightning and channel it into the flux capacitor.”

“That’s…” Is that from a movie?

“1.21 jigawatts will fix it.”

I glare.

He laughs.

A laugh that makes the hairs on my nape stand on end.

I dig my thumbs into the wound, silencing him with pain.

“Three minutes.” I reach for the supplies and start a tourniquet. “Tell me how to fix the power, and I’ll fix you.”

“Never.” He bares his teeth in a depraved grin. “I will die with that knowledge. With the knowledge of every answer you crave. My last thought will be the memory of Kody’s dick swelling in my hands. I’ll remember his beautiful innocence, how his young, budding body bent for me, opened for me, as I sank into him night after night. I will never forget the pleasure, the absolute rapture in possessing him in every way.”

Something snaps inside me.

There’s no thought. No purpose but one.

My fist slams into his face with a sickening crunch. But it doesn’t satisfy. Rage consumes me, and I unleash, fists pummeling in a blind fury, beating him, breaking him, ending him.

Kody’s shouts are distant, barely piercing my lust for blood.

In the back of my mind, I know this is tearing him apart. He would burn down the world for me. He would bleed, break, and slay for me. Being forced to watch as I do the same for him goes against his very nature. But I can’t stop. Not until this monster can no longer hurt the people I love.

I hammer my knuckles into flesh and bone, blow after blow, lost in a vicious haze. At some point, I reach for the pipe, and God help me, I relish the splatter and the screams.

“Stop! Stop!” A gurgling, rasping breath. “Stop, and I’ll tell you.”

Through the fog, I hear that.

I pause, panting, the pipe hanging limply in my hand.

“Untie me!” Kody snarls and thrashes in the background.

“Time’s ticking.” I spit on the piece of bloody shit before me.

“It wasn’t random.” He puts pressure on his gunshot wound, his features mangled and drenched in gore. “The reason I took you…was necessary.”

My pulse thrashes in my ears. “You saw me in the hospital.”

“Before that.” He gulps for air, his eyes bloated to slits. “I came for you. To take you from him.”

“What?”

“I wanted what my brother had.”

My breath catches. “You have a brother?”
