“I disagree. I think they wanted you to loosen up and relax.”

“I’m relaxed.”

Sky lowered her head, trying to hide the smile on her face. Maybe Hailo was right. There was something between us.

“What are you doing over here?”’

“Everybody’s pretty drunk, so I took a break.”

“How’s Cam?” I asked because that was the one topic that was always guaranteed to make her smile and relax. She was nervous and overthinking everything that came out of her mouth.

“She’s good and has been worrying me about you.”

“Me?”

“Mainly the leftover pasta she bullied me for the next day, but she keeps asking when you’ll bring us some more.”

“I can’t disappoint Princess Cam. I guess I’ll have to make that happen sooner than later.”

“You don’t have to do that, Mack.”

“I don’t see anybody else in her life doing it. Or yours, for that matter.”

“That’s because men suck. No offense.”

“Only nigga’s who know they’re not shit are offended by comments like that. I’m good.”

“Oh yeah, then why are you single? I know it’s not a lack of offers.”

“Nah, it’s not, but I’m not worried about them. I got my eye on something else.”

Once you cross paths with magic, it’s hard to see life the same. I wanted Sky. She was all I could think about lately. You couldn’t forget a woman like Skylar even if you tried.

“Are you going to ignore me forever?” Kyerra asked in her second attempt to hold a conversation. The first time she did most of the talking because outside of hey, there wasn’t much for us to talk about.

“I spoke when you got here.”

“And ignored everything I said after that.”

“The last time I saw you, I got cursed out. Now you walk in here tonight with Tyson. You’re looking for attention from the wrong nigga. Stop playing games with me, Kyerra.”

“I was hurt and angry, Gianni! Do you think it was easy for me to have everything I wanted one day and it’s all snatched away the next?”

I tucked my bottom lip as I flipped bills at the stripper, shaking her ass. I wanted to focus on that, but Kyerra sat beside me, waiting for a reaction.

“Gianni, say something!” Kyerra’s fist hit the seat on the verge of tears.

“I don’t have shit to say.”

“Is it because I came with Tyson?” she asked, refusing to give up.

“I’d still feel the same if you came alone.” Flicking a few more bills, I turned to Kyerra. “But I’m happy, so it ain’t much to say.”

“That nigga Mack is fucked up. Well done,” Tyson joined us, attempting to dap me up. I expected more from Tyson, so I didn’t have much to say until I addressed the fucked-up shit he pulled tonight. “Damn, it’s like that?”

“Iono, you tell me?” I asked, taking my anger out on the hundred-dollar bill I flicked between my fingers.

“If you have something to say. Say that shit with your chest.”
