“You would’ve known if you asked.”

“You haven’t been the most friendly the last few days. Besides, your mom was so happy I called. I could barely get the words out before she said yes.”

“They’ve been waiting on this baby for a long time.”

“I see.”

“Are you good?”

“I’m fine, Gianni.”

“You better stop saying my name like that.”

“That is why I got on birth control.”

“Birth control? Why the fuck would you do that?”

“Because my husband can’t keep his hands off me.”

“I could always start putting them on, Rosa.”

“I’d hate for your daughter to be fatherless. Don’t play with me.”

“Promise me something.”

“What is it, Gianni?” I asked as he roped his arms around my waist.

“You’ll give me another baby.”

“Don’t you think it’s too soon to be talking about another baby?”

“Not today, but eventually. I missed a lot of shit the first time.”

The idea of another child while I struggled to adjust to the first one was terrifying, but his soul begged me to grant him the experience he was robbed of. How could I deny my husband this chance to watch us create another life from the beginning?

“Okay.”

“Damn, you must really love a nigga. I thought I would have to beg like Jodeci and offer up a few gifts in exchange for that, okay.”

“A few gifts might speed up that timeline.”

“I bet. I’ll see what I can do.” The bright smile on his face eased the fear stewing in my belly.

“I have to go. I’ll see you later.”

“I love you, Pretty Lady.”

“I love you too.”

Gianni picked up Serenity and carried her outside to the car while I double-checked her bag to ensure I had everything. Halfway through, I quit because whatever wasn’t in her bag, was likely already had Xora’s house. You would’ve thought Serenity lived there as much stuff as she had.

After we were tucked in the car, I drove to Xora and Ross’s house and shot Sky a text, letting her know I was on my way. Ross was at the door before I could even park my car to help me get Serenity out. I could see a lot of Gianni in him.

“Thank you,” I replied, sitting her bag on the floor next to the couch.

“No need to thank me.” Ross smiled at Serenity, who was making spit bubbles in the carrier while he unbuckled her, “I’m sure you’re getting a lot of unsolicited advice these days but may I?”

“Sure,” I replied, curious what he wanted to give me advice about.
