"You must want to lose that motherfuckin' hand." Gianni's gun clicked following his voice, and my eyes ballooned as Marcel slowly let me go. Niyomi was mortified, while all Denim needed was popcorn.

"This ain't got shit to do with you,” Marcel grimaced but managed to remove the bass from his voice.

"That's where you're wrong," Gi informed him, tapping the barrel of his gun on Cel's temple. "If it has something to do with her, it has everything to do with me."

As angry as I was at Marcel- and I was- I didn't want him dead.

"Come on, baby, he was just leaving," I wrapped my arms around Gi's waist, hoping my touch would retire the darkness in his eyes.

"A man in your position should watch the company you keep. This bitch is good at pretending to be something she's not," Marcel seethed, kissing his teeth.

Marcel’s comment alluded to him knowing more about Gi than I did. His head cocked slightly, looking Marcel up and down, trying to place Marcel.

"Pretending! Nigga you got some fuckin' nerve! You're the one-" My sentence was cut short by Gi pulling me closer and planting a kiss on my forehead that erased whatever I was about to say. I wanted to smack the audacity from Gi’s lips for trying to call me out. I didn't even recognize the man before me, but secrets and lies seemed to bring out the worst in us both.

"Easy, Pretty Lady," His large hand tipped my chin and forced me to look up at him. "You don't have to explain shit to him.”

Marcel's broad shoulders heaved, wanting to challenge Gi, but for some reason, he didn't, which I found interesting. He was a natural hothead, claiming it was the principal of situations whenever he overreacted.

“A man in my position? It sounds like you know who the fuck I am- what I’m capable of.” Marcel’s muscles tensed as Gi inched closer to him, “Touch her again, and your family will be planning your funeral." Gi's words rolled out so calmly yet laced with a venom that sent a chill down my spine. "Where y'all parked at?"

"Over here," Niyomi pointed, leading the way, and Gi followed, ensuring we got there without any more problems.

Gi saved me tonight, but I knew Marcel, and he wouldn’t let up. The girls thanked Gi for a fantastic night before sliding into the car, leaving us alone. My alcoholic courage dwindled to nothing as I gripped my arm, trying to avoid looking Gi in the eyes.

"You have very interesting taste," he joked, brushing his thumb against his nose to conceal his smile.

"Hmm. What kind of taste do you have?" I questioned, taking the focus off my horrible taste in men.

"Where have I been all night?" His electric smile made me feel giddy as my heart thudded in my chest.

"What are y'all about to get into?" Gi asked, but I turned around to Niyomi and Denim arguing. Suddenly the passenger door flew open with Denim's head hanging over the side. My hand covered my eyes from the second-hand embarrassment of her hurling in the parking lot.

"We need to get home before I kill her."

"At least if she throws up again, it's in her car," I offered, but Niyomi wasn't in the mood for my reasoning.

"I don't think your girl is going to make it,” Gi observed, and he was probably right.

"I swear I'm not going anywhere else with her ass!" Niyomi hissed, searching the car for anything to wipe Denim’s mouth.

"I got her, Niyomi," I offered, hoping to diffuse the situation. We'd all had a turn being the drunk friend while the others were on duty. "I need to go so we can get her home. It's late, and we have an hour's drive."

"It's a hotel around the corner. Your girl isn't going to make it much further than that. I got y'all."

"You've helped me enough tonight. I can't let you do that." I shook my head, not wanting to impose anymore.

"Then what's one more time?"

I could hear Sadie's voice warning me about the dangers of drinking and driving. Then my eyes flipped to Gi. He had been a savior tonight in more ways than one, but there was an air of danger to him. I probably needed to stay away, but somehow I felt safer with him than I had in a long time.

The sound of Tyson's voice grabbed my attention. "Meet me at Nirvana around the corner." I opened my stride across the parking lot before Hailo could respond.

"Nigga ain't nobody stunting you or your bitch!" Tyson yelled while Mack ushered Solana to the car.

"Bitch! Who are you calling a bitch!" The woman fussed, lunging toward Tyson but Poe grabbed her back.

"Yo' ass!" Tyson yelled back.
