“Didn’t I tell you I was coming home?” I flashed my infamous smile that usually made her blush but not tonight. She rolled her eyes and went back to tickling Serenity’s stomach.

“You can’t control other people or their guns,” Hailo explained the rationale for her anxiety.

“I can control mine, and I’m good at what I do,” I winked, and though she was annoyed, she still smiled. “We’re about to head back out. I just wanted to drop in and calm your nerves.”

“Okay.” That was all she said, but there was so much more swarming around in that big ass head of hers.

“I’ll be back.”

She turned and stared at me, her brows high and rounded. “You fuckin’ better, Gianni.”

Pulling her in, she kissed me in a way that left me no choice but to return. I could feel every ounce of worry coursing through her as my tongue attempted to resolve it.

“Aye, save that shit for later. We need to roll.” Mack announced, standing in the archway.

“You promised me nothing would happen to him,” Hailo recounted. I had no idea what she was talking about, but Mack did.

“I got you, Lo Diddy.” Then again, they had many conversations I wasn’t privy to, so I wasn’t tripping. I kissed her forehead and followed Mack out.

The three of us hopped in the car, and Tyson drove across the bridge to settle this. During the ride, I hit one of my homegirls that lived in Hammond Hills to help us out. The Cassidy family ran an underground gambling ring they were trying to legitimize by building a casino on DuPont Falls waterfront property.

It was easy to find them in the wee hours of the morning because this was prime operating hours. Tyson whipped into the parking lot when I got a text from my wife.

Hailo: Please be careful. Remember you promised me.

Me: I love you.

Hailo: I love you too, but I’ll love Chauncy more, so you better bring your ass home.

I was supposed to be focused, and here I was, laughing at her slick ass mouth. Little did she know there would be no moving on. I’d come back from the afterlife and haunt Hailo and any nigga that thought he could fill my shoes.

Me: Calm down, Pretty Lady. You’re not getting rid of me. Kiss my baby for me and get some rest.

Hailo: I’ll try.

Even though I didn’t tell her where I was going, it wasn’t rocket science, and because of it, she would be sitting up until I walked into the house.

“Where is Toya?” Mack asked.

“I think that’s her right there. Calm down,” I assured Mack, who left the patience he usually possessed at home.

The black sedan pulled up next to us in the back of the parking lot, and Toya stepped out wearing a sexy black dress that exposed the vine of roses from her left shoulder to her right hip.

“Goddamn, Toya is fine as fuck. Is she single?” Tyson asked as she opened the door and slipped inside.

“So what’s so urgent you called me in the middle of the night?” She asked, getting straight to the point. Toya and I messed around briefly, but we decided we were better off as friends when she wanted more than I had to offer.

“I need you to go in there and get Morgan’s attention.”

“Morgan? Why?”

“Can’t tell you more than you need to know. I need you to work your magic and get him to leave with you. We’ll handle the rest.”

“What’s in it for me?”

“You know what’s in it for you.”

“You’re married now, so it isn’t the payment arrangement I would’ve hoped for, but the money will do. I’m not giving you a discount,” she playfully warned.
