“Take care of yourself, Ky.”

“For what it’s worth, I’m sorry. You’ve always shown me nothing but love. I should’ve told Gianni instead of ignoring what we were. You didn’t deserve that.”

“Keep me posted.” I walked Kyerra to her car before hopping in mine and heading to the office to finish some work.

The day got away from me; before I knew it, the sky was pitch black, and I was still in my office. I wasn’t rushing home because it would only give me more time to think, and I didn’t need or want that. Waiting on the results was going to drive me crazy, so I decided to stay put and get some work done.

“Knock, knock,” Solana smiled, entering my office.

“What are you doing here?”

“Well, Kyerra told me about the appointment today. You weren’t home, so I decided to check here. You look like you could use some company.” She sat the bag down on my desk and began removing the contents. “And food because I’m starving.”

“Your greedy ass is always hungry.”

“And still can’t gain a pound. Very ghetto.”

“What did you bring?”

“Your favorite. Loehmann’s,” Solana beamed at the thought she put into tonight.

“Damn, and you brought the good stuff. You must feel sorry for a nigga.”

“I shouldn’t, but I do.”

“It’s like that?”

“You don’t need me to remind you how fucked up this is, so I won’t,” she retorted.

“I know, Sol.”

“I’m just glad you and Gi made up. Family comes first always.”

“Yeah, me too. That’s my dog.”

“He should’ve fucked you up first but hey, water under the bridge,” Solana smiled before digging into her food.

“I know I fucked up, so I’m going to let that shit ride.” That and Solana ordered my favorite. The smell had me in a state of euphoria that even Sol couldn’t break.

“She’s leaning toward keeping it.”

“Are you supposed to tell me that?”

“Probably not, but family first,” Solana shrugged, taking another bite of her food. “Whatever she decides, I have your back, Ty.”

“What the fuck is up with everybody today?”

“I don’t know about everybody, but I know you’re scared. Scared of being like mom and dad.” Solana and I had many conversations on the topic growing up. Ironically I had turned into the very thing I hated.

“It’s not how I wanted shit to play out, but I have to own my decisions. Something he never did.”

“I’m proud of you.”

“Either I’m dying, or an apocalypse is on the way.”

“Wow, that’s how you respond to love and support?” Solana chuckled as her shoulders relaxed.

“I’m messing with you. I appreciate it, Sol.”
