“My only regret is not killing this nigga sooner.”

“Don’t make a decision tonight you can’t live with Cam finding out about later,” Tyson reasoned.

“You can’t kill him because co-parenting is hard, Macklen. That’s not how you solve your problems,” Gianni said.

“What do you know about co-parenting? You married your baby mama,” I challenged, and Gi’s jaw clenched.

“Watch your mouth. That’s my wife,” he corrected me.

“Then go home to your wife.”

“I will when you go home to yours,” Gi replied, pausing to see if I would move. When I didn’t, he sat and made himself comfortable, turning to Marcus. “Why do you keep pissing this nigga off?”

“Fuck you too!” Marcus spat.

“I’m the only lifeline you have fuck nigga. You might want to shut up,” Gi advised.

“I don’t know what drugs your mom was on when she got pregnant with you, but it had to be some strong shit,” Tyson chuckled.

“Save your breath, this nigga doesn’t give a fuck about anyone but himself. And maybe pussy because that’s all this shit is about. You met Ember and sold her a dream, making yourself the victim, so you had to play the part.”

Marcus smiled through the bruises on his face. “Me and Sky did plenty together. Did she tell you that too? Your bitch isn’t so innocent!”

One punch to the jaw led to another, opening Marcus’s nose like a faucet, but that didn’t stop me from fucking him up. Gi let me get my shit off for a minute because, deep down, he knew Marcus deserved it.

“Aite Mack. That’s enough,” Tyson tried to pull me away, but it was no turning back.

“Fuck that!” I pulled the gun from my waist and aimed it at Marcus’s forehead.

“Being a parent isn’t just willing to die behind your kid. It’s being a better version of yourself so you can make them better. Making tough decisions. Sparing motherfuckas even when they don’t deserve it. Doing the right thing even when you don’t want to because it’s not about you. It’s about Cam, and secrets always have a way of coming out. Always,” Tyson reiterated before driving his point home. “You don’t want Cam to look at you like you’re looking at him right now. That would kill you, so do the right thing for her.”

“One conversation with Lo, and you turn into a fuckin’ poet?” Gi asked, and now my mind was fucked up.

“What conversation with Lo?”

“Don’t worry about it pussy. There’s a new favorite in town,” Tyson boasted.

“I wouldn’t go that far nigga,” Gi added, bringing him back to reality.

My phone vibrated, and I slid it out of my pocket just enough to see who the message was from. It was Sky, so I felt obligated to open it.

Sky: Where are you?

Me: On my way home.

After closing out the text, I prioritized my family over a fleeting moment of satisfaction because that’s what men do.

“From now on, you need something you come through me.”

“I don’t remember you being there when she was conceived.”

“You think this shit is a democracy? I’m not Sky, and the next time you piss me off, it won’t be a nigga or speech that’ll keep me off yo’ ass,” I threatened and headed for the door. “Untie that nigga. He can find his own way back to the city.”

With that, I walked outside before turning around and finishing what I had started. One by one, they all trickled out of the front door, including Marcus. He was holding his side, struggling with each step he took.

“You did the right thing,” Tyson encouraged.

“You say that now until co-parenting with Kyerra becomes hell. You better practice what you preached tonight,” I threatened making Gi laugh but reality hit Tyson hard.
