“No shit Sherlock.” Tyson rebutted.

“Kyerra needs to give your grumpy ass some pussy.”

I snickered at Gi’s rebuttal because some things never changed, and the two of them going back and forth about pointless shit was one of them.

“Nigga, I get plenty of pussy,” Tyson claimed.

Gi’s hands flew up because his marriage to Kyerra was still sensitive. Plenty of days, he’d leave because we didn’t understand his predicament. I let him because a part of healing was accepting the responsibility you played in your suffering.

Like I told Gi, you knew the rules before you played the game. Tyson should've been more careful if he didn’t want to be stuck with Kyerra.

“You ain’t acting like it today.”

“Aye, I got better shit to do. Can we focus on solving the problem?” I interjected because their bickering would escalate to something bigger if I didn't.

“Everybody is grumpy in this motherfucka today, I see,” Gi retorted.

“Keep playing comedian, and you’ll be figuring this shit out on your own,” I warned.

“What are you in a rush for today?” Tyson asked.

“Cam has some school shit tonight, and I need a nap before it.”

Nodding, the conversation got back on track because when it came to Cam, I’d end this meeting before missing my responsibility. They knew it, too. Then suddenly, Tyson filled the room with laughter, causing us both to turn his way.

“What the fuck is so funny?” I asked.

“You. I never thought I’d see the day you’re playing stepdad. I didn’t even know your evil ass liked kids.” Tyson replied, laughing, and Gi joined in because he felt the same.

“Fuck y’all!” I didn’t dislike kids. I just didn’t have much experience with them.

“Anyway, I’ll go there tomorrow and see what’s what. Unless you want to,” Gi offered Tyson, but he declined.

Hailo pushed through the door, talking a mile a minute and staring at her iPad until she finally looked up. “Sorry, I didn’t know you guys were in a meeting.”

I chuckled at the subtle tick of her jaw when her eyes landed on Tyson. They were cordial, but there were still lingering feelings about how everything went down. Gi wasn’t lying when he said Lo could hold a grudge.

“Is Daniel at his desk?” Gi asked.

“Yes.”

“You didn’t think to check with him before walking in?”

“I’m the boss, remember,” Hailo dramatically repeated the line Gi said to her often enough to cause me to snicker, “If that’s changed, I can go out and knock.”

“You’re going to get Daniel fired thinking you can do what you want,” Gi fussed, but Lo Diddy turned to me instead.

“If you wanted to fire Daniel, you would’ve done it already, Gianni. Do you need me to come back?”

“You’re here now,” Gi leaned back in his seat, motioning Hailo closer because all that shit he talked about didn’t mean anything, and she knew it. We did, too. “What is so important you couldn’t wait?”

There was a time when she hated DuPont Falls. She cursed its name and all the rules that came with it, but time had been good to her and Gi. He was still head over heels, and she was just as addicted to him.

Hailo sat in his lap and glared at his sarcasm before turning to me. “What’s wrong with him today?”

I shrugged because Gi was straight before discussing the casino being short. He was irritated because he had to go to the casino and micromanage grown-ass men.

“Wassup Hailo?” Gi asked.
