That makes her really blush.

“Come here,” she whispers.

I do. I stand over her as she sits in the dressing room chair and looks up at me.

“Lean down,” she commands.

I do so.

Our faces are close. Mere inches apart.

“Kiss me,” she instructs.

And I do so.

We take our time. We connect, both physically and with our souls.

And I feel like I’m home again.

And it feels like time stops around us.

And all I think is about the girl I’m kissing, and how it seems like the whole universe is driving us together. Constantly. Like we’re orbiting planets unable to escape gravity.

Destined to collide.

This is all I’ve ever wanted.

“I am overwhelmed, August,” Emma tells me, her voice shaking.

I tuck her hair behind her ear slowly and tenderly.

“I know you are,” I reply. “But I want you to know something that I think might help with you being overwhelmed.”

“What is it?” she asks in a whisper.

I kiss her again before I speak.

“I did everything today foryou, Emma.”

EMMA

August tells me that he did today all for me, and my heart instantly – and I mean instantly – melts into one big gooey mess.

I can’t help it.

I can’t believe he brought in an audience to watch me perform at this magnificent old theatre. Yes, IknowI should be a little bit pissed off that he lied about him being the only person watching, but I just can’t bring myself to hate the man.

I know he did all this for me.

And kudos to him, it’s all paid off spectacularly.

Otherwise there would’ve been hell for him to pay.

With today, I can see how he’s changed - how he is not the teenage boy who let Mom and me get kicked out of his family mansion... how much he’s regretted that day from the bottom of his heart.

His actions today speak louder than any words could.
