I lean down and kiss the doctor with everything in me until we’re both sweating and close to ending...

“Fuck,” he groans as he finishes.

And I finish too.

I let out a pleasurable scream as I feel the man finish inside me.

“August...”

“Emma...”

I kiss him again.

And again.

And again.

“Hold me,” I whisper.

And he does. His arms surround me.

And he doesn’t let go for a very, very long time.

AUGUST

I raise the crap coffee to my lips and try not to throw up. The hotness of its contents – basically the same temperature as the surface of the sun - helps dampen its disgusting taste. I don’t know how I can stand it. I do need the caffeine, though, so I gulp the dirt-tasting mixture down like it is medicine.

The bright, fake hospital lights are harsh on my eyes after last night. With a groan, I take a seat in the hallway to manage down this coffee before I head off again to do my rounds. It’s morning now - the day after Emma’s amazing performance at the theater - and I am wishing I am anywhere but here at work.

I wish I’m back in that theatre.

Yesterday was, to put it simply, magical. That dressing room... feeling Emma’s body... our linking... the emerging feelings we had for each other as we remembered how the other tastes...

Yeah, I would much rather be there than here.

My daydreams are interrupted by a nurse rushing up to me. She’s looking harried.

“Doctor, the Parkers are here,” she tells me. “They’re waiting for you at your office.”

I nod at her. I remember that I have invited Ethan’s parents here today. I’ve got news about their son. They’ll be hoping it’s good news.

“Thank you,” I reply. “Please let them know I’ll be there shortly.”

The Parkers are indeed waiting patiently for me outside my office. They look at me with expectant and very exhausted faces when I arrive, as I presumed they would.

“Hello, doctor,” Nate greets me with a firm handshake. It’s evident he hasn’t had much sleep these last few weeks.

“Please come and take a seat,” I say to the couple, gesturing inside my office. “Let’s get straight down to business. I don’t want to take up any more of your time than I have to.”

I make my way behind my desk. I can tell the Parkers are incredibly eager to speak to me. They’re both fidgeting with their hands nervously.

“Why did you invite us here today, doctor?” Vicky asks before I even put my ass on my chair.

I lean forward and speak slowly. I’ve realized long ago that I should never match the fretful energy of the family members of patients – it doesn’t help stressful situations like this one. As a doctor, I must be calm and considerate at all times, especially when talking to strained people who might be at the very end of their rope; it’s the best way to manage expectations and to tamper emotions.
