“Please help us, doctor,” she says, her voice barely above her breath. “Please save our son.”

We sit there in silence for a long while before they finally go.

I’m walking in one of the many endless hallways of the hospital when suddenly I see August come striding purposefully toward me from the opposite direction.

He’s looking straight at me, and he’s got one hell of a serious expression on his face.

Is this about me?

“What is it?” I ask him once he reaches me, but he is moving so fast.

August doesn’t say a word in response. He simply hands me a folded piece of paper.

I open it.

Come over to my place tonight.

He’s got his address written underneath. A penthouse downtown.

Very fancy.

I glance back up at the doctor to ask him more questions, but he’s already gone.

“So, this is my place.”

August ushers me inside the penthouse as soon as his private elevator opens up on the top level. It takes me a second to realize his penthouseisthe entirety of the top level – it is simply that massive.

“This is your place,” I mutter. “Anyone else lives here in this pad? You got roommates hanging around somewhere?”

“No, it’s just me,” the doctor replies.

“That’s insane. You always blow me away, August.”

He smiles.

“I like that I’m able to do that, Emma,” he says. “You want to have a look around?”

“I thought you’d never ask.”

I just gawp like an idiot as he takes me on a tour through this apartment. There are so many rooms in this one place. He’s got a mini movie theatre set up in his living room. There’s a long wrapped-around balcony with incredible views over the city. I’m loving the mammoth open-plan kitchen with everything that you could possibly ask for.

And all of this is for just one man.

Yeah, it’s just a tiny bit bigger than my miniature room.

I’ve dressed up nice to see August tonight. I assumed it was some kind of date, so I came outfitted accordingly. I didn’t exactly know what to expect from his living situation, but I really shouldn’t be surprised – he is a Penmayne, after all.

As the sun starts to dip below the horizon, he takes me by the hand and guides me up to the balcony above the penthouse, where I notice there’s a freakinghelipad.

“You’ve got a helicopter?” I ask him, completely blinded by the lavish display of wealth.
