What next could be in store for me?

I step outside, where August is patiently waiting for me in a suit.

“When did you get changed?” I ask him.

“Just then,” he replies.

“That was fast,” I remark.

The doctor takes a step towards me and takes the whole of me in with his eyes.

“You look stunning,” he whispers.

“Thank you,” I say. “Now, tell me about this surprise. Where the hell are we going?”

* * *

August pulls up alongside the sidewalk and I gasp as I look up at where we are.

“No way,” I mutter.

“Yes way,” he says, shutting down the engine. “I have tickets.”

Holy crap. Holy crap. Holy crap.

“Please tell me you’re not joking around,” I say, nerves rushing my voice. “I don’t think my heart could take this if it’s a joke.”

“This is not a joke, Emma,” the doctor replies.

“You sure? Please be serious about this, August. This can’t be real.”

He laughs.

“Here, let me open the door for you.”

August gets out of his car and moves around to my side, where he opens the door and I step out onto the red carpet.

And a million cameras flash, greeting our arrival.

I look up at the entrance of the theatre I’ve stood in front of and daydreamed of for years. The same theatre I performed at in front of a near-empty auditorium.

My mouth hangs open in pure shock.

I can’t believe I’m at the Swan Lake premiere.

It’s chaos around us. There are paparazzi. Fans behind velvet ropes. Cameras. Lights. Celebrities.

We really are here.

This isn’t a joke.

My new boyfriend is making all my dreams come true. Step by step.

I turn to look at August.

He leans down so that he’s whispering in my ear.

“I’ve got the best seats in the house tonight.”
