Biker was naked and was pulling off my clothes at a breakneck speed. But I couldn’t drop it. “No hands, no mouths either. Eyes only,” I said, having to say my peace.

“Alright, alright. Anything for you, Love. Eyes only.”

His words satisfied my jealousy. Then the rest of him soon satisfied the rest of me.

Chapter 6

Kingpin

Watching little Prince, in his white tux, stroll down the aisle at my brother’s wedding, carrying the ring pillow, seemed like a preview of what we could expect at our own shindig next week. Boy flew off like the wind in a whole other direction and had the bridesmaids and his mama in their designer dresses, dipping under the pews, searching for the rings. I watched Eve’s ass bob up and down, thinking about how lucky I was to land such a hot baby mama. Maddie and Bubba took the chaos in stride. This fancy affair was a private one of only fifty important guests as my brother tried to outsmart the paparazzi.

Tugging at my bowtie, I kept Angel in her white dress on my lap, and Little Johnny, who knew me as his uncle, in his white tux, sat with me as well. But he was my kid too, not my brother’s. I sat in the front row, since my twin brother and I’d buried the hatchet years ago. Thankfully, in the matching tux, my hair pulled back, I blended in with the posh crowd. Felicia, Johnny’s mother, and Bubba’s ex-wife sat on the other side of me in her finery because Eve was fixin’ to sing before the couple said their I do’s. The red head got ahold of Prince before he could cause any more interruptions.

“She’s like an angel.” Felicia wasn’t talking about my baby in my lap. Who was every bit an angel with Eve’s light hair and bright eyes. She was talking about Eve, decked out in white, singin’ her heart out to the amazement of all these music industry folks. “What’s Eve doing with a devil like you?”

“You mean my ol’ lady? She loves this devil so much that she’s marrying him again next week. Probably just to get another honeymoon.”

“Aren’t you jealous of all this attention she’s getting?” Felicia wouldn’t shut up while she sang.

I spotted Eve catching glimpses of her whispering to me and straightened my spine.

“I hear she’s always gone… leaving the babies with you. Showing off all over Nashville. You know I’m in all week if you want to get away from the ol’ ball and chain.” Felicia had always been down to party. Even while she was married to my brother. That’s why little Johnny existed.

Eve wasn’t always gone and Felicia, who was practically a has been, was jealous. I ignored her invitation. “At least people want to hear Eve sing… You’re going to be in? Then why can’t you keep Johnny while they’re gone this week?”

Eve and I would be keeping him while my brother and Maddie were gone on their honeymoon to Fiji, and then as soon as they got back, we were having our own wedding and Maddie and Bubba were keeping our kids while we were gone for a whole week. In their gated estate in Brentwood, I felt the babies would be more than safe. And Mateo would be staying onsite to make sure they would be. He had his eye on Little Johnny’s nanny, so it all worked out.

Felicia shut up as soon as Eve came to join us. She gushed over her as she handed Prince to his mama. Eve ate it up. I wouldn’t tell her how evil Felicia truly was since she was a big fan. As a family, we watched my brother, using my name, getting married to my high school sweetheart, and I couldn’t have been happier for the man. With my arm around Eve, I thought about how happy I was to have her and our kids. My brother was back in my life too, and not as just a thorn in my side. And there was a bonus in Little Johnny being mine. I was a blessed man.

At the reception, I took off my tie and was starting to relax.

Eve elbowed me. “You should say something, make a toast.”

Shaking my head, I refused.

She gave me a scrutinizing glare. “He’s your brother.”

“His best man just gave a fine toast,” I said. I hadn’t prepared a thing. Sure, we were on good terms, but I wasn’t about to call attention to it.

“Beau, say something,” Eve whispered. “Your parents, God rest their souls, can’t be here… What are you, chicken?”

That did it. I rose, grabbed my whiskey, and moved towards the podium. Unlike with Satan’s funeral, I didn’t have notes. Everyone cheered when I got to the mic.

“Alright, alright, quiet down now, y’all. If I could have your attention for just a short bit. Never thought I’d be the one standin’ here, doin’ this kinda thing, but here we are. I wanna make a toast to my brother, the groom, and his beautiful bride.

You know, growin’ up with this guy, we were as thick as thieves, tighter than a…” I had to keep it clean, or did I? Looking at Eve, I decided to just be myself, “tighter than a bull’s ass in fly season. We shared everything, from our dreams to our music, and yeah, even a couple of girls since we used to look alike. We made a heck of a duo, me strummin’ the guitar while he banged on the drums, or whatever was lyin’ around that could make a sound. We dreamed of hittin’ it big, takin’ on the world together.

Now, look at him, not just a star but a goddamn superstar. And me, well I got all the looks… we both ended up where we’re supposed to be, even if I took a bit of a detour…

I ain’t gonna lie, there were times when things got a bit tangled between us. Hell, he went and made a name for himself. Might’ve borrowed a bit of my style along the way, but who’s keepin’ count? And sure, the lady he’s marryin’ today, well, let’s just say she wasn’t always standin’ next to him. But that’s all water under the bridge, roads long ridden.”

I was really putting my foot in my mouth, so I decided to raise my glass and end it. “To my brother and his beautiful bride, I am truly happy as shit for you both. We got a party to enjoy, and if I know my brother, he’s itching to get that dance floor fired up.”

Fucker got up and hugged me. I didn’t need all that, so I patted his back and escaped.

Eve was covering her laugh when I came back.

“Who’s chicken?” I asked.
