“There’s been an accident. Hudson fell into a tree well.”

“What?” I rush to grab my keys and purse.

“Just wait, Palmer,” my dad says. “Someone saw him disappear, and rescue is on their way to him now. You sit tight and wait to hear. I’ll go see what’s happening.”

My dad’s crazy. “No, I’m going.”

“I’m right behind you,” Harper says.

“Girls, I really want you to stay here,” Dad tells us.

I look at Harper, and she reads my mind. “Sorry, Dad, I love him and I’m going.”

“And I’m driving her,” Harper says.

Harper and I rush from my house. My parents come out right after, climbing into the back seat.

“We’re all going then,” Dad says.

“Put your seat belts on.” Harper slams her foot on the gas, reversing out of the driveway.

“Harper!” my mom screams.

“Sorry, Aunt Sedona.” But Harper continues to drive erratically and fast, which at this moment, I actually love her for.

All I want is to spend my life with Hudson, so I grip the holy shit handle and hold on.
