“Yup. What happens on the island stays on the island.” Rae nodded firmly, though her stomach clenched. Then she rolled her eyes. “Well, other than the gossip.”

“We don’t have to tell anyone,” Avery reassured her.

Oh. That was cute that she thought that would work.

“Fuck that,” Iris said. “I’m telling everyone I was right.” She grinned unrepentantly, proving Rae right, though even if her friends would have been willing to try to keep it quiet, she knew it would get out, eventually.

“There’s too many people on this trip, anyway,” Domi said. “It’ll come out sooner or later. Someone will accidentally say something or make a comment in passing, then it’ll take on a life of its own. It’s better to get the truth out there first. Stronghold and Marquis run on gossip.”

Sad but true. At least, sad for her now. It wasn’t as if she’d minded in the past. That didn’t bother her so much, though. People liked to talk. It didn’t mean anything.

What smarted were Domi’s words and knowing her best friend had kept things from her. That Domi had felt she couldn’t share certain things with her. And… well, Rae couldn’t even blame her. Looking back, she knew exactly what Domi was talking about.

The second Domi had a fight with a boyfriend, Rae was no longer willing to put up with any of his bullshit, even if Domi was. It wasn’t as if she’d ever forced Domi to break up with anyone, but she always felt like it was a long time coming when Domi finally did. As though she should have known after that first fight.

And she did leave relationships as soon as there was a big fight. Because she didn’t want that. She wanted what her mom and dad had.

She could see the fight with Brian coming.

Just call him Papi.

Was it even worth making the suggestion when he’d already told her what he wanted? It wasn’t what he wanted, so why bother?

Because maybe the fight would be worth it.

Brian

Opening the door to what he expected to be his quiet home, Brian did not think to pause to see what Morgan and Asad were up to. He knew they were there because their cars were out front, but that hadn’t meant much other than knowing they were around.

He was hopeful the gossip hadn’t flown too fast, though. After the hellacious boat ride, then an uncomfortable plane ride he’d pretended to sleep through, all he wanted was quiet. Since he couldn’t have quiet, he wanted some time with people who didn’t know he’d been sleeping with Rae all week.

So, he wasn’t expecting to walk in on Asad and Morgan in the middle of the living room playing hide the pickle while dressed as what looked like Aragorn and an elf lady. Asad was wearing a wig. Morgan, with her long red hair, was not, so he couldn’t call her Arwen—and wasn’t he a giant nerd for even knowing that.

“Shit.” He clapped his hands over his eyes. While he’d seen both of them naked and even having sex at the clubs since they’d gotten together, it was a little different to walk in on it unexpectedly.

“Shit! Sorry!” Morgan squealed, then Asad grunted.

Brian wasn’t sure exactly what they were doing because he was still covering his eyes, inwardly sighing.

Asad made Morgan very happy, and that was the biggest thing, but…

“You two couldn’t do this at Asad’s house?” he asked plaintively.

“Morgan has to film this afternoon,” Asad answered. “Her room at my place isn’t ready yet.”

Morgan had an even more tragic backstory than Brian. She’d been raised by heinous parents who threw her out when she was a teenager after they found out she’d had sex, and she ended up with the man who groomed her until he basically sold her to an abusive so-called ‘Dom.’ Since she’d been rescued, she’d gone right back into kink, this time learning about consent, limits, and being able to make her own decisions rather than being someone’s sex slave.

He didn’t want to squash that, but he also hadn’t really wanted to come home to see her boyfriend balls deep in her while they were doing nerdy role-play.

“Sorry, Brian,” she apologized.

He let his hand drop from his face so he could see them straightening their clothes. Morgan’s expression was a mix of contriteness and defiance.

“You should have texted to let me know when you were on the way.”

“I did.”
