I was happy, damn it. When Brenda graduated two years later, I’m the one who introduced her to the scene. Showed her what was possible as a submissive. She and I frequented the club together, and then she met Dalton a year ago.

She found a Dominant who fell in love with her. Their timing was impeccable.

But my timing?

My timing has always been shit.

The limousine stops, and the chauffeur opens the door. Ronan gets out and takes my hand to help me exit.

A Dominant and a gentleman.

He holds my hand as we walk into the hotel and head toward the elevators.

He doesn’t speak.

I don’t speak.

We enter the elevator, he hovers his key card over the reading device, and the elevator ascends.

The doors open with the ding of the bell, and I walk at his side to his door, which he unlocks and opens.

“We’re going to get one thing straight now, Mary. When I say—”

But his words are interrupted by a voice. A female voice.

And it’s not mine.

“Thank God you’re here, Ronan. I’m back.”

“I never got on that flight, Ronan. I couldn’t. I booked a hotel, and I’ve been waiting for the right time…” Keira glares at Mary. “Who the hell is this?”

“Who the hell are you?” Mary answers her.

“She’s Keira,” I say. “And she’s leaving.”

Keira narrows her gaze. “I’m afraid I can’t leave, Ronan.”

“I assure you that you can.”

Keira slowly walks toward me. “There’s something I didn’t tell you before. I thought about not telling you. But honestly, I must.”

“I think that’s my cue to leave,” Mary says.

I trail my finger over her cheek. “You stay. She’s leaving.”

“Ronan, I—”
