She hated the way he said her name, as if he actually cared about her when they both knew he didn’t.

“I’m not interested in going back, and I’ve been living as a human. Just leave me here, Asmodeus.” She tried to walk around him, but he grabbed her arm and shoved her against the wall.

Hard.

Glaring at him was stupid, but Soraya was feeling a little bit reckless with this massive motherfucker hovering over her like he was planning to drag her back to hell himself.

“What the fuck was that for?” she demanded, rubbing the bruises on her arm in the same shape of his hand.

“I can’t leave you here.” Asmodeus pulled out another cigarette and his lighter, watching her like he didn’t give a shit whether she lived or died. “Leaving a lilim on earth is just asking for heaven to come and slaughter her.”

Ah.

So, he only cared because she was lilim.

“I can take care of myself.” She tried to walk around him again and this time Asmodeus pushed her back into the wall hard enough the brick cracked and all the air was knocked out of her lungs. “What the hell is wrong with you?”

“I don’t care if you can take care of yourself.” Asmodeus took a long drag of his cigarette and tucked the lighter away as he kept that unwavering gaze on her. “Lilith asked me to bring you back home. So that’s what I’m going to do.”

Fucking fantastic.

She rubbed the spot on her chest where he’d pushed her, feeling the crack in her sternum healing as she tried to ignore the pain.

Looking up at the moon in the sky, she wondered why Lilith would care about her now when she hadn’t before. She’d only been here for six years, which meant it had taken three years in hell for her great-grandmother to notice her absence.

Hundreds of years of just existing, and now that she’d finally gained some freedom, they wanted her back.

For what?

There was nothing vital she’d been doing in hell.

Soraya had no power there and no one gave a shit about her other than her status as a lilim. There were so few of them left now and even fewer who were direct descendants of Lilith herself.

Most of the female demons were weak, especially compared to the male demons, and Soraya had never been able to figure out why until she’d come to earth.

“I’m not going back.” Soraya dropped her chin and stared right back at Asmodeus, daring him to lay another hand on her. “If you try to make me, you’ll have to bring back a corpse.”

The last thing she expected was for the prince to smirk at her. “Is that so?”

“It is.” Soraya kept her arms loose at her sides and slid one foot to the side to widen her stance, bracing herself for whatever happened next.

“I see why she’s so desperate to have you back, little lilim.” Asmodeus flicked the ash from his cigarette, but he didn’t smoke it. His unblinking gaze was intense as he studied her from head to toe like he was just now seeing her for the first time. “And I can also see why that boy is obsessed with you when all you gave him was a kiss.”

Soraya was so thrown off guard by that statement, her jaw actually dropped.

Had the Prince of Demons just…called her attractive?

Asmodeus flicked his half-smoked cigarette away, the burning ember snuffed out the moment it hit the ground. “Fine then, little lilim. Let’s make a deal.”

She didn’t dare look away from him, not when she could taste her freedom as well as her ruin in those words. Asmodeus was known for his cruelty – for his ability to exact Lucifer’s will with unerring loyalty.

The only fallen angel who’d never truly fallen.

All the lilim knew the story. It was one of the favored topics of gossip among the female demons – the fallen prince who’d chosen to join Lucifer because he believed that his eldest brother was truly following their original purpose and it was God who’d lost his way.

Not the angel who’d been cast out of heaven for disobeying his father.

Every lilim had dreams of being the one to make Asmodeus truly fall – to teach him how to love, but that had never been one of her dreams. No, Soraya wanted nothing to do with Asmodeus and never had. He was a psycho.
