The Empty Net was not a Georgia type of place. Why she was living at Castle Apartments was a mystery. The building served as the temp stay for newer Rebels players, but was fairly down market for someone who clearly came from money.

“So most of your teammates drink here?”

“Sure, like Hudson. I think you might have met once.”

Grey nodded at her. “Hello.”

Georgia gave a wan smile, evidently distracted as her eye roved the bar. “Hi—oh, there you are!” Her face lit up with determination, as if she was readying herself for battle. Dex followed her gaze which was locked and loaded on …

Banks.

“Georgia, you okay?”

“I will be.” She remained still, hands on hips, psyching herself up.

“What’s happening?” Grey murmured out of the side of his mouth.

“No idea, but I have a feeling we’re about to find out.”

Whatever vibe Georgia was giving off had an impact: Banks paused mid-throw of a dart, looked in their direction and froze, like he’d seen the Ghost of Socialites Past.

And then he moved their way, or rather, Georgia’s way, his expression fierce and focused, not unlike his demeanor on the ice. Fucking scary, to be honest.

“Jesus,” Grey muttered, which pretty much encapsulated Dex’s thinking on the matter.

“Georgia,” Banks said on arrival, like it pained him to speak those two syllables.

“Banks,” came Georgia’s reply, equally disdainful.

Then a stony silence.

Grey said under his breath, “What am I missing?”

Dex could either walk away or help the conversation along. The latter was a much more interesting prospect. “You guys know each other?”

Banks had moved his burning gaze from Georgia’s face to her outfit, which seemed to offend him.

“I need to talk to you,” Georgia finally said.

Without taking his eyes off her, Banks said, “O’Malley, how do you know Georgia?”

“She’s my neighbor at Castle Apartments.”

“Come down in the world, have you?”

“Nothing you need to worry about,” Georgia bit out. “Could I have a moment of your time?”

Her voice sounded strained, like she was holding on by one of the sparkly threads in her dress.

“We have nothing to discuss.”

“Ah, but we do.”

Banks snorted. “No army of lawyers this time?”

Grey and Dex exchanged glances. “Lawyers?” Grey mouthed then turned back to the face-off, not wanting to miss a thing.

“This would be better done in private.” Georgia’s voice held a note of pleading.
