She drew back and looked up at him.

“You can tell me anything.” It sounded dramatic and premature, but as soon as the words slipped past her lips, she realized she meant it.

He shook his head, rather vehemently. “That’s not what you signed on for.”

“I haven’t signed on for any?—”

He cut her off with a kiss, deep and hot and wet. Her knees turned to limp noodles but she held on, drawing strength from him. When he let her up for air, they were both panting.

“Sorry, I should have asked,” he said, sounding so serious.

“I loved it. You make me feel so … desired.”

“It’s not hard. Well, it is.” He raised a cheeky eyebrow. “If you know what I mean.”

“I think I do.” A giggle escaped her, and that made him smile.

The smile vanished quickly. “But I meant what I said last night about respecting you. Taking it slow. I don’t want to be that guy.”

“What guy?”

“The one who’s always looking to get his rocks off. A user. You’re a special person and I don’t want you thinking I’m only after one thing.”

He had a rather poor opinion of himself, and she suspected some of it related to what he’d overheard her saying about him. How he got around.

“Dex, can I be honest with you?”

“Always.”

“So we got off to a rocky start but it didn’t take long before I started looking at you differently. Noticing how sweet you are, how kind you are to the animals, how nice you treated my daughter. And I also noticed other things. How attractive you are, how I can’t seem to think straight around you, how one look from you is enough to set me on fire. I’m not used to feeling like this, so—well, horny all the time.”

His lips curved because male pride will always cheer a guy up.

She gave him a light thump against his incredibly hard pecs. “Yes, that’s all you, and the idea that you’d withhold what I so clearly need is frustrating beyond belief! I’m dying with lust over here and you’re apparently fine with fanning the flames and hiding the fire extinguisher!”

Add to the knowing smile a husky chuckle. So. Infuriating.

“Dex!”

“Sorry, I’m being a jerk.” He cupped her jaw and drew her mouth close to his. “Dying, huh?”

“Oh my God, what does it take to get some around here?”

And then they both laughed before the kissing again superseded all, hot and deep, more urgent than before. The floodgates had opened and any thought of slowing down had thankfully vanished into the ether.

“You’ll tell me if I’m going too fast?”

Immediately followed by more kisses that barely gave her time to think. Fast was good, fast was sexy.

“I’ll tell you. Assume it’s all good,” she whispered.

“We’ll see. I’ve never wanted anyone this much, Ash.”

She didn’t believe him, but she’d take his pretty words and work with them. She hadn’t heard anything so appealing in years, and while it might be fake, it was a fakery she could get down with. She needed to be wooed, and if she had to kickstart the seduction to get there, so be it.

She gripped the hem of his tee and pulled it up a couple of inches.
