She’d rolled her eyes, muttering something about cupids and their appalling belief inlove. But she’d been invested in the couple on screen by theend.

“That’s why the newestPride and Prejudice is the best one,” Chance had told her. “Becausethey skipped to the good parts.”

“How about a nice, grislymurder mystery next?” she’d countered.

Which had made him laugh. She made him laugh a lot, actually.

He glanced at the stillglowing TV and the clock on the wall beside it. Three in themorning. Damn. They’d gotten little to no sleep last night. Heshould either stay here and go back to sleep or get them into bed.But hands off. They needed rest.

The crick in his neck fromsleeping semi-sitting with her on top of him told him the bed wasbetter. Carefully, he scooped Elodie up in his arms and managed toget them both off the couch and to his room without her making asound.

He slipped her between thesheets and stared at the woman in his bed, her pale hair spreadlike a halo on his pillow, her curves outlined by the sheet andblanket. She looked…right…in his bed. Like she belongedthere.

Tempting to wake her up andbury his hard cock in her warmth, make her want to stay. Make herwant to belong here. But the shadows under her eyes told him sheneeded rest more than fucking right now, so he resisted.

As he moved to his side ofthe bed, she frowned. “Chance?” she murmured his name a littlefretfully, her hand smoothing over the bed covers like she wassearching for him.

For him.

In that exact moment, he gave her hisheart.

Nothing to do with hisarrow. His magic didn’t make love happen where noneexisted.

“Chance?” she murmuredagain, eyelids fluttering open.

He moved between the sheetsand scooped her against him. “I’m here.”

Elodie relaxed instantly, warm and womanlyagainst him. “I thought you’d left me.”

Had she been left in thepast? The same way he’d been left? Squeezing her closer, he droppeda kiss on the top of her head. “No way.”

Elodie took a big breath, releasing it slowly, clearly sinking back into dreamland. “Theyalways leave me,” he thought he heard her mumble. But wasn’t surehe’d heard right.

He tensed all the same. Whohad ever left her? Hurt her? He’d never do that. Not if she washis…

Chapter 10

“Eat…”

The voice in her headyanked her out of sleep in a cold sweat only to find the mist thatsurrounded her form when she became her monster now hovered overthe bed.

The monster inside her wasravenous, and it would take Chance if it had no other option. On agasp, she forced it back down. Deep. She needed to feed that sideof her. Soon. Maybe she could find someone appropriate to dispatchand be back before Chance woke up?

No, the sun was starting to lighten the sky. She’d have to wait for night.

Not wanting to go back tosleep and risk losing control, Elodie managed to slip out of bedwithout waking Chance, who in slumber appeared even more angelic. She could see now where the cherub imagery came from. Not that helooked like a little boy. He was all man. But there was somethingsweet about him when he was relaxed this way.

Quickly, she dressed andwent into the living room where she dug her phone out of her purse.A message notification caught her eye and she checked to find anote from Delilah.

Cretan in the wind. Musthave some magical help hiding or I would have found him. Lay lowuntil I tell you it’s safe.

Terrific.

She’d give Delilah untiltonight, then she’d have to risk Cretan finding her. She’d justmake him the meal.

Damn minotaurs.

She’d sucked the life outof Tavros, crushed his body into jelly, and fed on his aura. Andnow she had another bent on revenge. She was tempted to go to thegods to intervene. Sirens were off limits for other supernaturalsto kill. But bringing gods in only made things messier. Theyweren’t exactly predictable.
