She nodded,undaunted.

“In that case…” He partedhis shirt, superman style, to show her a silky red shirtunderneath.

She lifted her brows. “Um…”

“I brought you a pair,too.”

A pair of what?

He leaned over and pulled awrapped box from a pile of bags in the hallway that she hadn’tnoticed until now. Casting him a bemused glance, still not quiteable to believe this was real, she opened the gift to find…pajamas.Red silk pajamas that she assumed matched the ones he was wearingunder his suit. She eyed the other items on the floor.“Takeout?”

Chance’s grin widened. “Afew different kinds. And I’ll set up my streaming so we have lotsof romance movies to pick from.”

“Only the good partsthough?”

He grinned. “And threedifferent kinds of chocolates for eating in front of thefire.”

Everything she’d said shewanted.

He picked up the roses he’ddropped at some point during their reunion. “But I’m cupid. I hadto bring the flowers, too.”

On a delighted laugh, she took them andinhaled deeply. “I love them.”

“Loves roses. Noted.” Hepretended to write that down in a notebook and shelaughed.

“Likes to tease. Noted.”She did the same. Then held out a hand. “Be myValentine?”

“I thought you’d neverask.” He tugged that hand and pulled her into him, kissing hersoundly. “I think I’ve loved you since the day we met and you toldme to shove my arrows up my—”

“I’m glad you didn’t takethat advice. It’s a very nice backside.”

“Come on. Let’s eat beforethe food gets cold. Then maybe I’ll let you appreciate my asswithout clothes on.” He waggled his eyebrowssuggestively.

Elodie laughed as she bentdown to scoop up bags of takeout. She’d done that—laughing—morewith him than she had in at least the last decade. “Maybe I’ll letyou appreciate mine.”

Chance groaned as she lethim get a good look right that moment. “I can see life with a sirenis never going to be boring.”

Life with a siren. Anindefinite state of things she hoped might last forever, startingwith tonight.

“A siren who lures men totheir deaths and a cupid who helps humans fall in love. Who couldever have predicted our falling for each other?”

“Well….” Chance drew outthe word like he’d known all along. He always did like the oddpairings.

Following her inside, heplopped the food down and pulled her in for another kiss. “Idefinitely owe the fates for their hand in this.”

She sighed into him and forthe first time in a long, long time, looked forward to her future,to seeing where her life would lead with Chance at herside.

“Happy Valentine’s Day,Ellie.”

For maybe the first timeever, she didn’t roll her eyes, instead, embracing his meaning forthe day. “You too, my love. You too.”
